ET SKI SAFETY: KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE

Jet Skis and other personal watercraft (PWCs) are a fun part of summer on the Cloverleaf Lakes. While many boating rules apply broadly, PWCs also have a few specific requirements that are important to know.

• Operators must be at least 12, and those required by law must complete an approved boating safety course and have a boating safety certificate.
• PWCs must operate slow-no-wake within 200 feet of shore, twice the 100-foot distance required for motorboats.
• When towing a skier, tube or similar device, the PWC must be designed to seat at least three people. A competent observer is required unless the PWC has an approved wide-angle rearview mirror.
• Always follow the PWC’s passenger and weight limits.

Sharing your Jet Ski with guests, family or friends? A quick reminder of the rules before they head out can help everyone enjoy the lake safely.

Know the rules. Give others space. Have fun and ride safely!

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲💧
A couple of weeks ago, Extension Lakes' Citizen Lake Monitoring Network (CLMN) Educator, Paul Skawinski, trained volunteers Kevin Goodman and Rick Schultz on the Cloverleaf Lakes in Shawano County and Zac Locklear from the Waterways Association of Menominee and Shawano Counties, Inc. (WAMSCO). They were being trained on how to collect extra samples as part of the CLMN Quality Assurance (QAQC) project. The QAQC project assures the quality of data collected as part of CLMN.

Proud to see CLPA Board members Kevin Goodman and Rick Schultz recognized for their work supporting the Citizen Lake Monitoring Network. 💧

🐾 Love your dog. Protect our lake.

Dogs are a wonderful part of lake life, and picking up after them is one simple way we can all help protect the Cloverleaf Lakes.

Pet waste can carry bacteria and parasites that may make people and pets sick, especially when left near yards, shorelines, docks, and places where families swim, play, fish, or gather. It can also wash into the lake and add nutrients that contribute to algae and w**d growth.

Please remember: pick it up, bag it, and toss it in the trash.

Boating Traffic Awareness Reminder

As a reminder, the Town of Belle Plaine boating ordinance requires boat traffic on Pine Lake and Grass Lake to travel counterclockwise from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Following the traffic pattern helps create a more predictable flow on the water, improves visibility between boats, and reduces the risk of close calls, especially during busy summer days.

Think of it like driving on the road: going the wrong direction can create confusion and safety risks for everyone around you.

Thank you for staying alert, following the flow, and helping keep the Cloverleaf Lakes safe and enjoyable for all.

With the holiday weekend ahead, many of us are looking forward to lake time at our favorite spots around the Cloverleaf Lakes.

As you enjoy the water, please keep a few simple courtesies in mind: pack out what you bring in, keep the lake clean, leave room for docks, lifts, and safe boat passage, and boat responsibly.

A little courtesy helps keep the lakes fun, safe, clean, and respectful for everyone who enjoys them.

Fireworks Barge Safety Reminder

It is that time of year! The Cloverleaf Fireworks Team will be setting up and loading the fireworks barge starting Tuesday, June 30, in preparation for Saturday’s show.

We ask for your help when boating or skiing near the barge:

1. Prep Area: Tues, 6/30 through Sat, 7/4 daytime

The barge will be near the Rustic Resort area on the west side of Pine Lake while the team is setting up and loading fireworks. Please stay far away from the barge; boat or ski toward the middle of Pine Lake when possible, and avoid creating wakes near that area.

2. Show Area: Sat, 7/4 evening

Before the fireworks show, the barge will move to the northwest side of Pine Lake near Gibson Island. Please continue to keep a safe distance and avoid creating wakes near the barge once it has moved.

Loading, wiring, and positioning fireworks is careful, detailed, and potentially dangerous work. Additional waves make the job harder and can create added safety risks for the crew.

Using the Cloverleaf Lakes public boat launch? Please remember to pay the launch fee and take a few simple steps to help protect our lakes.

Daily launch fees are $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents. Annual permits are $30 for residents and $60 for non-residents.

While you’re at the landing, please also follow Clean Boats, Clean Waters practices: inspect your boat, trailer, and gear; remove plants or debris; drain water; and dispose of unwanted bait properly. These small steps help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) and support ongoing efforts to manage milfoil and starry stonewort in the Cloverleaf Lakes.

AIS Technicians may be on site to assist when available. Thank you for doing your part to help keep Cloverleaf Lakes clean, healthy, and protected for future generations.
