As we kickoff our first official game week of the season, here is some important information regarding postseason qualification. There have been some changes for Hi-Line that are highlighted/explained below:
Hi-Line Volleyball was moved up to Class C2 this season, from Class D1 a year ago (classifications are determined by yearly girls total enrollment in grades 9-11). With that move, comes a few changes to how postseason sub-districts are determined.
In Class D1/D2, sub-districts are a pre-determined group of 4-5 teams, and the team with the highest wildcard average in that group hosts the sub-district. That group assignment is released at the beginning of the season and the group is typically close together, geographically.
In Class C1/C2, teams are separated statewide into "Regions". Hi-Line has been assigned to Region 3 this year, along with 16 other schools. Sub-District assignments will be determined by taking the top three teams in the entire region based on wildcard points average. Each of those three teams will host a sub-district. The remaining teams will be serpentined off into one of those three sub-districts based on their wildcard points average. We will not know the sub-district location or potential opponents until the week before sub-districts begin.
The major changes:
1.) The timing of knowing what sub-district we're in and who our potential opponents are.
2.) The potential travel distance for our sub-district.
Regardless of the post-season qualification method, these changes do not impact the matches that are already scheduled during the regular season. The goal is and always has been, to win and earn the right to host our own sub-district. We are looking forward to an exciting season! Go Bulls! 🔴🏐
