Last weekend, the Drexel Triathlon Team travel to Rye, NY for the NECTC Conference Championships at the Westchester Triathlon. With a 7:00AM start for the men’s wave, the team was up before dawn and setting up their transition area in the sub 50 degree air. The swim in the Long Island Sound offered flat water at a comfortable 70 degree temperature. The bike course featured rolling hills with an unforgiving climb, Claire’s Climb, at mile 9 of the 26 mile course. The 6.2 mile run through the local neighborhood was mildly flat and finished at the Rye Town Park.
Notable results include Andrew Keenan finishing the race in 4th and securing his spot on the overall podium as the 2nd place male in the conference. Despite getting a flat rear tire at mile 21.5 of the bike, Max Joyce made the decision to keep riding without stopping to fix the flat. Losing 2 minutes on the bike, he was able to run down UVM’s Dakota Greenblatt to secure his spot on the podium as 3rd place male in the conference.
As a team, Drexel was able to wrap up the season in good fashion. The Men’s team took 5th in the race and 3rd for the overall season. Drexel also took 5th place in the men’s and women’s combined scoring for the race. Scoring Athletes from the race include Andrew Keenan, Max Joyce, Shayne Watson, Harrison Betz, Emily Lloyd, and Abby Mudd.
