The use of alcohol and how it affects your body. Alcohol is pretty much the worst thing your body could consume and here’s why 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
Alcohol disrupts protein synthesis. It inhibits signals to build proteins in the body. Alcohol is broken down into ethanol which is really toxic. It seems to affect protein synthesis in males more than females.
4-8 drinks for men can result in testosterone decrease of 18%-40%. It will raise estrogen levels which can have feminizing effects in males. It decreases growth hormone which has negative effects on blood sugar maintenance and metabolism of muscles, bones and the brain.
Did you know 1 Long Island ice tea consumes around 720 calories? There’s 7 calories per gram in alcohol. Alcohol metabolism disrupts other metabolic pathways that are also responsible for energy. It will limit the body’s ability to burn carbohydrates and fatty acids because it hogs these molecules and decreases their availability to do other things.
Alcohol also increases cortisol levels. If levels are increased for long periods, this can lead to increased tissue breakdown.
So how much alcohol is okay before it’s too much? Moderate drinking is 1 to 2 drinks per day for men. Heavy drinking is more than 15 a week. Which is crazy to me and doesn’t seem very high. For women it’s 1 drink a day and drinking more than 14 a week is risking your health.
I was once a drinker and have for the most part stopped after finding out all the health risk it can have.
Below is a picture when I use to drink all the time compared to now.
