After a month of exploring ease & softness, we are about to shift into one of the most challenging (and often misunderstood) teachings of yoga, aparigraha.

The concept of non-attachment is often over-simplified, leaving us feeling like in order to practice it, we have to stop caring about the people or things in our life, which for most of us feels impossible. Who would want to live a cold & detached life?

In reality, aparigraha is much more nuanced. Rather than asking us to detach from the people and things we love, aparigraha asks us to let go of our attempts to control the things we love. Loving things as they are may be the fiercest act of love after all. It removes the selfishness of love. When you truly love the flower, you don’t rip it from the earth. You let it be as it is.

Playing in the cool mountain stream is much more fun when you allow the water to flow around you, instead of trying to hold on to a fistful of water. This means accepting that you’ll never sit in the same stream twice.

Things are always moving, always changing, always adapting. Aparigraha is the practice of loosening your grip on what you love, releasing the fear of things changing, and loving life not in spite of its impermanence, but because of it.

Take a deep breath in, then let it out. Feel your shoulders drop & your jaw relax. Unclench your fists. Stay here for a moment. This is sukha.

Things have been incredibly high-energy lately on a global scale, and I think most of us are feeling the effects. It’s so easy to get caught up in the chaos of it all, where the tension builds so slowly you may not even feel it at first. And then out of nowhere, you crash… exhausted, overwhelmed, or burnt out.

Sukha is the remedy for the insanity of the world right now, but accessing it when you’re right there in the middle of it can feel impossible.

This month, we’ll explore poses that help to soothe & regulate your nervous system, calm your stress response, and access a deep, unshakeable sense of “it’s all going to be ok”.

Forward folds in general are amazing for calming the nervous system, but the hip-stretching aspect of widening the legs will help you to process and release both emotional & physical stress.

Last month, through tapas, we learned the importance of consistently showing up for ourselves with discipline and effort. This month, let’s apply that consistency to taking care of our physical and emotional wellbeing.

We were not made to live in this perpetual state of exhaustion, overwhelm, & fear, and none of us deserve to.

I’m truly honored to host a rare Shamanic Drum Making Ceremony with Jade Wah’oo Grigori, a Shaman & storyteller traveling all the way from Arizona just for this!

Over 3 days, you’ll create your own ceremonial drum and learn how to work with it as a tool for meditation, journeying, and healing.
