This one hit close to home. If you've been around club sports long enough, you've seen it — the family that chases every shiny new logo. Sometimes leaving is right. But sometimes the best thing a kid can find isn't a new team. It's a place worth staying. 🏀
Great read for any club family heading into tryout season.

Why it's happening. Why it needs to end.

More Than a Team

Yesterday, I was at a track meet and ran into one of our KC Wildcats families. We caught up for a few minutes, and then she said something that stuck with me.

Her daughter — who doesn’t run in the same school circles as a lot of kids in the valley — told her that whenever she finds out another girl plays for the Wildcats, she feels an instant connection. Not because they’re teammates. Not because they’re the same age. Just because they’ve both been part of the same club and gone through something similar together.

That’s exactly what this club was built to do.

KC Wildcats has always been about bringing kids together from different schools — public, private, Christian, homeschool — putting them on the same court, and letting the work create the bond.

And somewhere along the way, something stays with them.

Running a club like this is hard. Opinions differ. Teams change. Some seasons feel more like managing chaos than building something meaningful. You keep showing up because you believe in the work, even when it’s hard to tell what’s actually lasting.

That comment yesterday stuck with me.

We didn’t set out to create some perfect identity or culture. We just wanted to give kids an opportunity to play, compete, and grow together.

Somewhere along the way, it became more than that.

🏆 CHAMPIONS 🏆

Our 6th grade select boys take 1st place at the Mid-Columbia Hoops Grandview Spring Fling!

This group competed at a high level all weekend—playing tough defense, sharing the ball, and responding the right way in big moments.

What stands out most is how they continue to grow together. The work they’re putting in is showing up when it matters.

🏀🐾 KC WILDCATS BOYS – STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 2 🐾🏀
Day 2 in Spokane… and the Wildcats are rolling!

🔥 5th Grade Boys: 1-0 --- Now 2-0*
🔥 6th Grade Boys: 1-0 --- Now 2-0*
💪 4th Grade Boys: Battling after some tough losses, still strong!

These divisions are loaded:
• 5th Grade: 43 teams
• 6th Grade: 59 teams
• 4th Grade: 27 teams

That’s nearly 130 teams competing at State, and our boys are right in the middle of it.
Every team is guaranteed 4 games, so there’s a lot of basketball left — and plenty of opportunity to make a run.
Stay locked in. Keep competing. One game at a time.

🏀🐾 KC WILDCATS GIRLS – STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS 🐾🏀

What a weekend for the KC Wildcats Girls at the Washington State Championships in Spokane!

Competing against teams from all across the state in the Silver Division, our girls represented Ellensburg with toughness, teamwork, and heart.

🔥 4th Grade Girls – 3rd Place at State (4–1)
💪 5th Grade Girls – 5th Place (3–1)
💪 6th Grade Girls – 5th Place (3–1)

Across these three divisions, there were 82 teams competing
• 21 teams in 4th grade
• 32 teams in 5th grade
• 29 teams in 6th grade

To have all three teams finish in the top tier of their divisions is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the work these athletes and coaches have put in all season.

We’re proud of how these girls competed, supported each other, and represented the KC Wildcats and Ellensburg community on the state stage.

Next up… the Wildcats Boys head to Spokane next weekend for their shot at State.

For those who have not gotten enough basketball, CWU Wildcat Nation plays tonight in town at 7pm.

🐾 Let’s go Wildcats!
