The Scottfield Theatre Company Brings “Meet Me In St. Louis” to Life at the Havre de Grace Opera House

Step into the warmth, wit, and heart of turn-of-the-century St. Louis as Scottfield Theatre Company opens its production of Meet Me In St. Louis at the Havre de Grace Opera House. Directed and choreographed by Becky Titelman with musical direction by Reenie Codelka, this production revives the beloved 1944 film that made Judy Garland a legend while introducing its charm to a new generation.

The musical includes seven of the best-loved songs from the film, plus ten additional Martin and Blane songs written specially for the stage. Memorable musical numbers include “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “The Boy Next Door,” “The Trolley Song,” and “Whenever I’m with You.” Each is delivered with warmth and polish, filling the theater with the timeless melodies that generations have loved.

At the center of this glowing ensemble is Erin Acerno as Esther Smith, whose radiant voice and heartfelt sincerity make her a natural fit for the role made famous by Garland. Acerno captures both the romantic optimism and quiet emotional depth of Esther, bringing new life to these familiar songs. Her chemistry with Aaron Knight as John Truitt feels genuine and easy, creating tender moments that stand out as highlights of the evening.

The Smith family dynamic feels warm and authentic, anchored by James Gilbert and Liz Marion as the steady and loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Their humor and heart keep the household grounded through all the family ups and downs. Sara Scavilla shines as the eldest sister, Rose, balancing sophistication with sharp comedic timing, while Adam Nelson brings a relaxed charm to the role of brother Lon.

Alexis Hoagland all but steals the show as Tootie, impish, imaginative, and wonderfully deadpan. She anchors the Halloween mayhem and delivers some of the evening’s most disarming punch lines. Olivia Huth (Agnes) is a sharp accomplice, matching Hoagland’s energy beat for beat, and the two create some of the most delightful moments in the production. Wayne Ivusich adds a lovely touch as Grandpa Prophater, giving the show a sense of nostalgia and heart that ties everything together.

Becky Titelman's direction keeps the pacing lively and the story flowing naturally, blending humor, sentiment, and song without ever feeling overdone. The choreography is playful and period-appropriate, adding fun and movement to the big ensemble numbers. Under Reenie Codelka’s musical direction, the score sparkles with warmth, and familiar songs sound as rich and fresh as ever.

Scottfield Theatre Company’s Meet Me In St. Louis is a heartwarming celebration of family, love, and community. It’s a reminder that the magic of classic American musicals still resonates, and it leaves you smiling long after the curtain falls.

Performances run over the next two weekends at the Havre de Grace Opera House, with four shows each weekend beginning Friday, October 10.

Harford Tech Track & Field Dominates at 2A State Championships
Girls Win Team Title, Boys Take Runner-Up in Historic Weekend

By Sports Weekly Staff

Harford Tech left its mark on the 2025 MPSSAA 2A State Track and Field Championships in dramatic fashion, powering through two days of elite competition at the Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex on May 22 and 24. The Cobras’ incredible showing culminated in a first-place team finish for the girls with a commanding 109 points, while the boys’ squad delivered a thrilling performance to take second place overall with 54 points.

🐍 Girls Strike Gold Across the Board
Harford Tech’s girls turned the state meet into a showcase of speed, power, and depth, led by senior standouts Winter Evans, Madisyn Bobb, Madisen Morgan, and Destiny Baker.

Evans captured two individual state titles, blazing to first in the 100m hurdles (14.01 PR) and claiming gold in the 100m dash (12.18 PR). She also placed second in high jump (5-4) and helped her relay teams to top finishes.

Bobb was just as electric, winning the 200m dash in 24.70 (PR) and finishing second in the 400m (57.38 PR). She also teamed with Evans, Morgan, and Baker to place third in the 4x200 relay (1:44.55) and sixth in the 4x400 relay.

Morgan contributed major points with a second-place finish in the 100m, a sixth-place long jump, and a state title in the triple jump (35-08.25). Baker added to the firepower with a state championship in the 300m hurdles (41.92 PR) and strong relay legs across the board.

Isabel Devos showed distance strength with a top-5 finish in the 3200m and a 9th-place finish in the 1600m, while London Youngblood placed in both throwing events, finishing 5th in discus and 8th in shot put.

💪 Boys Bring the Heat in Hurdles and Distance
For the boys, senior Khory Reevey turned in one of the most dominant all-around performances in the state. Reevey won three state titles: the 110m hurdles (14.44), the 300m hurdles (36.75 PR), and the long jump (22-3.75). He also helped power the 4x100 and 4x200 relays to top-15 finishes.

Alexander Wockenfuss delivered one of the Cobras' most exciting moments of the meet, running a blazing 1:55.30 to win the 800m state title and set a school record in the process.

The Harford Tech boys also earned key points in the relays:
3rd in the 4x400 (3:23.29)
3rd in the 4x800 (8:08.43)

Eljiah Binot and Dominic Scott added depth in the hurdles and relays, while Mikol Cobb placed 8th in the triple jump. Robert Bonhoff cleared 12 feet in the pole vault to finish 10th.

🐍 A Championship Culture
The Cobras’ combination of sprint dominance, hurdle power, jumping finesse, and relay chemistry proved unstoppable in the girls division and nearly delivered a sweep with the boys.

In a year packed with standout performances, this meet was the ultimate exclamation point on Harford Tech’s 2025 track and field season—a moment that will be remembered as one of the finest in program history.

Congratulations to the Cobras, your 2025 2A State Champions (Girls) and State Runner-Up (Boys)!
