Weekend race recap
Friday at Golden Sands Speedway....
We made our return to Golden Sands for our second time. With 22 cars on the property, we knew we had our work cut out for us.
She qualified 14th, the top 12 made it to the double feature events, and the rest had to race a last chance qualifier.
In the LCQ Macie started 6th. With only 10 laps she knew she had no time to waste. She quickly fought her way up to 3rd, and would finish 4th, punching her ticket to the main events.
We started in 16th for both features. She made some great moves on restarts, and made some great passes, she just didn't have the speed on the longer runs. Both features we finished 14th. The results are not very indicative of the performance that we had. Overall it was a successful night.
After a few hours of sleep, we made the 1 hour trek down to Dells Raceway Park. This was our first trip to this track. Michelle N Wade Brelje rented the track for the morning so all the RACK SHACK BBQ cars could get some valuable time on the track. Macie wasn't sure that her car was working right. She has been saying it is down on power for the last 2 weeks. We have rebuilt the carburetor and entire fuel system, changed plugs, and changed valve springs but nothing has helped. We asked our teammate Justice Doubrava to take her car out, he came back in and confirmed her beliefs that our motor isn't quite up to par. With no other options we decided to just run what we brung, and go make laps and have fun.
This race was a national qualifying race so we were expecting a good car count, and that is what we got. 27 Bandoleros showed up to try to make this race.
In qualifying the top only the top 16 made the 1st feature. Macie was sitting on the bubble in 16th, and her bestie Allison Brelje bumped her out by 1 tenth of a second! We were a little bummed, but we were supper pumped for Allison.
Because we didn't make the 1st A feature, we were forced to run a heat and a B feature.
In the heat race her car broke before the green flag even waved. So we had a DNS. Michael Doubrava and I went to work to get the car ready for the B feature.
She started 7th in the 10 lap B feature. She had a great race, she passed 3 cars in 1 corner taking them 4 wide on the top. She missed some huge wrecks and finished 2nd (if she had 1 more lap she would have won!)
Her finish in the B main earned her a spot in the second A feature. She started 16th and had raced all the way up to 7th, before dropping back to a 12th place finish.
These Wisconsin cars are no joke. The drivers get the chance to race 2 and even sometimes 3 times a week. We are super proud of Macie Ryan Racing for the job she did both nights. These races were also the first races that she didn't have a spotter (most Wisconsin tracks don't allow them) so she was out there doing her own thing. She gained a TON of confidence, and had a TON of fun! She loves both of these tracks and will definitely be back with a new motor and see what we can do!
Back home at Elko Speedway this weekend for the GNL Summer Shootout.
