Pitt County Composite Mountain Bike Team - NICA Pitt County's youth mountain biking team, open to any interested area students 5th-12th grades. We also aim to have FUN!

North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League (NCICL) provides competitive mountain biking for high school and middle school students (grades 5-12). Our mission is to help every North Carolina young person to develop a strong mind, a strong body, and strong character through cycling, and becom

e a lifelong advocate for outdoor recreation in the process. There are no tryouts or cuts -- everyone has an opportunity to ride and participate. Pitt County Composite serves all students in Pitt County and surrounding areas; we are not associated with a specific school and homeschoolers are also encouraged. Our season runs December-May, and features practices/adventure rides 1-3x a week along with 6-8 high-quality league event weekends. NCICL is one of 19 leagues in the National Interscholastic Cycling Association movement. NICA was established in 2009 & has quickly grown to over 5000 athletes and 2000 licensed coaches across the United States. Know a 5th–12th grader who loves riding bikes—or wants to learn how to mountain bike?
JOIN THE PITT COUNTY COMPOSITE MOUNTAIN BIKE TEAM for the 2026-2027 season!
Open to all 5th–12th graders from public schools, private schools, and homeschools in Pitt County and surrounding Eastern NC counties.

NO BENCH. NO TRYOUTS. EVERYONE RIDES!

No mountain biking experience? No problem! We welcome beginners and experienced riders alike.
Learn new skills, ride trails, make friends, optional race events, help maintain trails, and enjoy the great outdoors!

In 2026, more than 800 youth participated in the North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League (NCICL), North Carolina's chapter of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). Learn more about NICA here (https://www.northcarolinamtb.org/).

Taking care of trails is part of NICA! Several members of our team got out today to clean up a trail we helped build last year (along with about 100 ECU fraternity members, not pictured 😂). We removed a LOT of invasive privet, cleaned off an entrance sidewalk that was covered in sand and debris, and resurfaced several spots to improve tread quality. This was our third Teen Trail Corps event of the year!

Three student athletes made the long journey out to Tryon, the site of our league’s newest event venue! Race goals were achieved, ramps were conquered, and Coach Kat told a dad joke on the mic. We’re proud of our student athletes for improving every race and being willing to try new things!

Aaaand we’re off to the races! It was an exciting weekend at Brown’s Creek, where many of our new team members encountered (and conquered) unfamiliar trails, including tricky climbs and technical terrain. We also had fun going on adventure rides, playing frisbee, and bonding with our NICA family around the campfire. The weather was incredible, and we hope that trend continues through the rest of the season!
