The school follows the lineage of Tien Shan Tzi. Lineage & Instructors
The Universal Temple of Healing Arts is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the living traditions of martial arts and healing practices. Its lineage begins with Sigung Roberto “Beto” Briseño, founder of the Tien Shan Tzi Martial Arts Temple. After serving in the Vietnam War, Sigung Briseño devoted his
life to the martial path, training under a wide range of masters across many disciplines. He wove these teachings into a system that emphasized not only martial skill, but also healing, discipline, spiritual growth, and service to the community. His work became a foundation of strength and compassion for generations of students. In the early 2000s, Sifu Gloria “Joy” Lozano began her training under Sigung Briseño. She remained his close student until his passing in 2019, carrying forward the Tien Shan Tzi lineage with dedication and heart. Today, as the keeper of the lineage, Sifu Joy continues to guide students with her gentle but profound tutelage, helping many discover healing, strength, and balance through the arts. Among her senior students is Leoncio Perez Jr., who began training in 2015 under both Sigung Briseño and Sifu Joy after an injury led him to seek healing. Following Sigung’s passing, Sifu Joy appointed him as Chamber Abbot, entrusting him to help preserve and carry on the lineage. Leoncio has since expanded the temple’s mission through Qi Gong outreach in the El Paso border community, while also studying alternative energy medicine such as sound therapy, bringing holistic healing to those in need. Completing the circle of instructors is Aaron Perez, the most recent teacher within the lineage. As a Qi Gong instructor, Aaron focuses on outreach and service, helping people from all walks of life experience the benefits of Qi Gong practice. His compassionate teaching makes the healing arts accessible, continuing the temple’s vision of service, empowerment, and transformation. Together, the Universal Temple of Healing Arts carries forward a living tradition: one that blends martial discipline with healing wisdom, serving not only as a martial lineage, but as a community of peace, resilience, and harmony.
