TCORT TAKES ON PUCKER FALLS 🤘🛞⛰️
Another one in the books!
TCORT headed to the Gordy’s Hill area near Escondida/Socorro, New Mexico to take on the newest Jeep Badge of Honor challenge commonly known as Pucker Falls.
A little local knowledge before you go: the trail itself is known by the local wheeling community as Lower Amado. Pucker Falls is the name associated with the signature obstacle that helped give this route its reputation. Jeep Badge of Honor now recognizes the route as Pucker Falls/Lower Amado.
And don’t let the roughly 1.6-mile length fool you. Lower Amado is considered a Level 5 trail by New Mexico 4-Wheelers, with boulder gardens, ledges, deep V-notches, off-camber sections and plenty of opportunities to pick a much harder line. Trails Offroad rates its highest-end obstacles as 10/Extreme, although much of the first portion can be handled by a less heavily modified 4x4.
What would TCORT recommend?
After running it ourselves, we’d recommend 35-inch tires or larger, preferably on a wheel that leaves plenty of sidewall — 17s with 35s are a great combination. A 2.5–3.5 inch suspension lift gives a Jeep a much more comfortable amount of clearance without unnecessarily raising the center of gravity.
We’d also want lockers, rock sliders, skid protection, solid front and rear recovery points and a winch. Dual lockers are strongly preferred if you’re planning to play on the harder lines. In fact, a recent New Mexico 4-Wheelers Lower Amado run specified 35s or larger and front and rear lockers for participating rigs.
Could a capable driver do portions of it on 33s with less lift? Yes. Would we recommend showing up expecting to attack every obstacle that way? No. 😂 Pick your lines, know your Jeep, have a good spotter and don’t wheel this one alone.
