This picture means more to me than any medal we’ve ever won. When I look at this photo, I don’t just see students, parents and families gathered at a tournament. I see something that we have worked incredibly hard to build. I see Familia.
As one of the owners of El Monte Jiujitsu, one of my greatest sources of pride isn’t how many medals our kids bring home. It’s watching the relationships that grow beyond our mats.
It’s seeing parents become friends. Kids become brothers and sisters. Families cheering for children who aren’t their own. It’s knowing that when one of our kids steps onto those competition mats, they have an entire Familia standing behind them.
We may have started as strangers, but somewhere along the way, we became Familia. And that’s something no medals could ever replace.
We push our students to be fierce competitors, to fight with courage, and to never back down from anything or anyone. But more importantly, we teach them to be good human beings. To support one another. To celebrate each other’s victories. To lift each other up through defeat.
Because years from now, the medals may be forgotten, but the friendships, the memories, and the feeling of belonging to something special will stay with them forever.
To every parent who has trusted us with their child, thank you. You aren’t just supporting a jiujitsu school. You’re helping us build a community where our children know they are loved, supported, and never alone.
And to the families out there looking for more than just a jiujitsu school, I hope you see what I see in this picture.
You don’t have to be a champion to belong here. You don’t need experience. You just need to walk through our doors.
We’ll take care of the rest.
