Racers,

Despite the heavy rains earlier in the afternoon, we ended up with a great night to sail. Temp 80 deg, fair skies, winds at the start were 12 g 16, varying throughout the evening down to 10 mph. Bill Allman covered RC duty, with help from Tedd. The RC set up a G2 course: 2 triangles followed by a windward leeward leg, start and finish at the leeward end.

Five boats raced last evening: Ernie and crew on the Etchells (nice to see the Etchells back on the water); Chris Proudfoot, Chris Duncan, and Bill Grabendike on C22s, and Dana on the Hunter 23. Chris Duncan sailed with Ardie and Deann as crew.

At the start, both Chris Proudfoot and Chris Duncan skippered their 22s on starboard near the pin end, Ernie had the Etchells ramping up to speed just behind them on port, Bill Grabendike had a nice start on port nearer the RC boat. The Etchells liked the stronger winds near the cove entry, and Ernie's crew started pulling away from the fleet. By the windward mark, Chris Duncan had moved into 2nd, with Chris Proudfoot 3rd. Bill and Dana followed. That order held throughout the race. The Etchells gradually extended her lead, and the fleet slowly stretched apart. Corrected order of finish: Ernie and Co held on for first place, with Chris Duncan, Chris Proudfoot 2nd and 3rd. Bill Grabendike finished 4th, with Dana Herring 5th.

Congrats to Ernie, Jim, and Alan on their first race win. Thanks to Bill and Tedd for setting up a square couse and timely start. We all reconvened back out on the dock for our post race social and enjoyed another Wed night evening sky.

We'll see you next week,

Cheers,

Blaine

Racers,

We raced Wed, May 20th, on another fine day for sailing -- temps cool at 63 deg, with East winds at 10 mph under cloudy skies. Kevin, Jim Steck and I set up a 2 lap Harry Anderson course at 095. Winds were 10 g 16 as we set the course up. Six boats took the start at 6:55 pm -- another good showing for our racing fleet, including 5 C22s.

Most of the fleet started on starboard, tacking over to port a short ways up the course. Preston and Tedd led the fleet around the first mark, with Bill Allman and Bear a short distance behind. Chris Duncan followed in third, with Chris Proudfoot fourth. Bill Grabendike and Dana filled out the fleet.

The two lead boats extended their distance from the rest of the pack. Preston and Tedd held on to the lead all the way to the finish, extending their lead on the 2nd upwind leg. We rejoined back out on the docks for a chilly post race gathering.

Congrats to Preston and Tedd on their win. Thanks to Kevin and Jim for their work on the Committee boat, the course looked pretty squared up to the wind as we set up the L Flag at ~6:40 pm.

Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, and we'll see you next Wed.

For the C22 folks, the C22 Nationals start racing on Memorial Day. "C22 org" is the source for the race results.

Cheers,

Blaine
