3-18-2026 First burn on a warm season grass field.
Big Bluestem, Little Bluestem and Indian grass.
I'm working hard to get the quail back on my property.
What works for the quail works for the wild turkey and whitetail deer.

Last Screening update. 9-13-2024
Looks to be pushing 9' in height.
My plan is to do an archery hunt tonight 9-17-2024.
As I shot my bow for the last 2 evenings 300 yards away, I've been seeing bucks walking in front of the blind heading to a pond for water then back into the soybeans to feed. At least 1 of the bucks looked mature.

8-25-2024 Update on Screening around my tower blind.
Pushing 7' tall with 4 different seed types reaching different heights to ensure a wall the deer cannot see through. The dead area in front of the stand covering 1 acre will be planted in winter wheat and a brassica mix to bring deer into bow range. The 3-acre soybean plot reached 40" and have a good crop of beans on them for the late season. I broadcast winter wheat into the beans a few days ago to eat up the nitrogen the soybeans created to reduce the grasses and w**d growth this next spring.

8-10-2024 Future location for a fall hunting plot. After the rain and a few days for the grass and w**ds to start growing back I can put the final spraying of roundup on this location. I'm planning on planting a brassica mix with a touch of winter wheat in this 1-acre plot located between the screening and RR Soybeans.

July 3, 2024.
I got the screening planted along the edge going to the tower blind. I used a mix of Egyptian wheat, Sudan grass, and grain sorghum. It should reach 5' 6' and 7' in height. Having layers of height will make it a thick wall the deer shouldn't see through.

GRO Sanctuary Blend planted May 2023.
Bedding and fawning for the deer, nesting for the turkey and quail.
This is planted on the slope of a hill Northwest of the tower blind.
When you plant bedding on a slope it stays dryer giving the wildlife a warm dry place to rest in the cold winter months.
Gives me a little cover as I enter and exit my blind also.
