The Resilience of Wild Trout
Every time I pass this sign at my favorite river, I am reminded of the incredible journey a wild trout undertakes. These fish are survivors. They spend years navigating floods, predators, and changing seasons just to reach adulthood.
There is certainly a place for keeping a limit of stocked fish. However, wild rivers are special. They are natural systems that rely on every mature fish to keep the cycle going. When we choose to release our catch in these waters, we are protecting the future of the fishery. We are making sure these fish have the chance to spawn and keep the river wild.
Let us respect the struggle it took for them to get here.
