‼ As the seasons change, our bodies often feel the shift too. Cooler mornings, fluctuating temps, and the wave of seasonal bugs can take a toll on energy and recovery.

✅ One of the most important things you can do is listen to your body.
Sometimes movement is exactly what you need—but other times, pushing through when you’re run down does more harm than good. Read that again.

👉 If you’re fighting off illness, your body’s #1 priority should be healing. Exercise breaks down muscle and requires recovery—so asking your system to do that AND fight sickness can set you back even further.

⚖️ The balance:
- If it’s mild fatigue, stress, or just the weather dragging you down—light movement can help.

- If you’ve got real symptoms (fever, chest congestion, body aches)—rest is essential.

☝ Your health comes first. A few days of rest won’t erase your progress, but pushing through sickness can make it last even longer.

Take care of yourself this season—inside and outside the gym! 💪🍂

🎀 October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Some important facts:
~1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
~Over 42,000 women in the U.S. die from breast cancer each year.
~Early detection is key—mammograms can detect cancer before symptoms appear, significantly increasing survival rates.
~Men can get breast cancer too, though it’s rare (about 1 in 833 men).

💪 Regular exercise matters: Women who get consistent physical activity have shown a 10–20% lower risk of breast cancer compared to women who aren’t active.

At 618, we believe in strength—inside the gym and in life.

🩷💚This month, let’s honor survivors, support fighters, and remind everyone to stay proactive about their health. Wear pink, share your story, and encourage loved ones to schedule regular screenings!

Sure, lifting heavy and looking better may be our goal now, but in our later years fitness is about something even bigger—it’s about building a life you can actually ENJOY!

Regular exercise improves energy, strengthens your immune system, supports mental health, and helps your body move the way it was designed to. The real win? Quality of life.

👉 Being active now means fewer limitations later. It’s the difference between moving freely and independently—or relying on assistance as simple tasks become harder.
👉 A sedentary lifestyle only makes it easier for sickness and chronic issues to pile up.

Just ask our 9:15 class—a crew full of badass individuals who are staying active, strong, and independent while fighting off the aging process every single day. 🙌

The long game is clear: investing in your fitness today pays off for years to come. The goal isn’t just to live longer—it’s to live BETTER! 💪✨

🏈🍗 NFL season is here—which means weekends full of football, friends, and (let’s be real) LOTS of food. While game-day spreads can be loaded with wings, chips, and dips, you don’t have to throw your health goals out the window to enjoy them!

✅ What to Eat:
~Lean protein options like grilled chicken skewers, turkey chili, or shrimp cocktail.
~Veggie trays with hummus, salsa, or Greek yogurt dip.
~Lighter swaps like baked wings, sweet potato fries, or cauliflower “buffalo bites.”
~Whole grain chips or crackers paired with guac or salsa.

⚠️ What to Watch Out For:
~Creamy dips (ranch, queso, loaded sour cream dips = sneaky calories fast).
~Fried foods that add up before you realize it.
~Endless refills of soda or beer—liquid calories count too!

👀 Mindless eating is real. Snacking nonstop during four quarters might not seem like much in the moment, but repeated week after week it can add up fast and stall progress toward your goals.

💡 Build your plate with protein + veggies first, then add the “fun foods” in moderation. You’ll feel satisfied without the Monday regret.

You can still enjoy game day food AND stay on track—it just takes a little balance.

💪 Movement Spotlight: Unilateral Overhead Dumbbell Work 💪

Strong shoulders. Stable core. Better balance. That’s what you get when you train one arm overhead at a time with dumbbells.

✅ Why Unilateral?
-Working one side at a time forces your body to stabilize. Your core, shoulders, and even hips have to stay engaged to keep you upright and balanced.

✅ No Weak Side Left Behind
-By isolating each arm, you’ll identify and strengthen imbalances, helping prevent injuries and improving performance in all movements.

✅ Endless Benefits
-Shoulder strength & stability
-Core engagement with every rep
-Better posture and mobility
-Practical strength for real life

🔥 Examples You Can Try:
Single-arm overhead press
Overhead carries
Overhead holds

🎯 Coaching Tip: Stay tall, keep your ribs tucked, and avoid leaning—think “stacked” from wrist to shoulder to hip!

💧 Stay Hydrated, Stay Strong 💧

Water might not get the hype that pre-workout or protein shakes do, but let’s be real—it’s the true MVP. 🏆

👉 It fuels your workouts
👉 Keeps your joints happy
👉 Boosts energy + focus
👉 And helps your body recover faster

Now for the fun part—what’s your hydration sidekick? 👀
-We all know finding the perfect water bottle feels like unlocking a cheat code. Is it the giant jug that doubles as an arm workout? The sleek stainless steel that keeps water ice cold all day? Or maybe the one covered in stickers that shows off your personality?

Drop your favorite water bottle brand or style below ⬇️ Let’s see which one reigns supreme in the 618 Fitness crew!

On this day, we stop and remember the events of September 11, 2001. 🇺🇸

We honor the innocent lives lost, the heroes who sacrificed, and the families forever changed.

May we never forget the impact of that day, and may we continue to cherish the unity and strength that followed.

🚫 Myth Buster: Carbs Are BAD For You 🚫
One of the biggest nutrition myths out there is that carbs are the enemy. Let’s clear this up ⬇️

✅ Carbs = Energy. Your body’s main fuel source is carbohydrates. They keep your brain sharp, your muscles working, and your energy levels steady.

✅ Not all carbs are the same. Whole food carbs (like fruits, veggies, oats, rice, potatoes) provide fiber, vitamins, and minerals your body needs. Ultra-processed carbs (like soda, candy, pastries) don’t offer the same benefits — and that’s where the confusion comes in.

✅ Simple vs. Complex Carbs.
Simple carbs (like fruit, honey, and yes—candy) break down quickly, giving you fast energy.
Complex carbs (like oats, beans, brown rice, whole grains) digest slower, keeping you fuller for longer and providing steady energy.
Both can have a place in your diet depending on your goals and timing.

✅ Cutting carbs ≠ guaranteed fat loss. You might drop weight quickly when cutting carbs, but much of that is just water. Long term, extremely low-carb diets can leave you feeling drained and under-fueled.

👉 Bottom line: Carbs aren’t bad — balance is key. Fuel your body with the right kinds of carbs and watch how much better you feel. 🍞🥔🍎
