Now that’s what you call a stand of clover. Even during this dry period with heavy use. Planting the right type or blend that suits your soil, location and browsing threshold is imperative to maintaining a healthy forage environment for your deer and turkeys.

If you haven’t already gotten your mineral sites refilled by now you’re running behind. Visits to our mineral sites on 6 different properties has increased by 400% within the last 2 weeks. These sites were established or refilled over 6 weeks ago. Meaning the new visits didn’t occur due to the mineral being an attractant. It’s because the deer knew they were there and now is the time their bodies are requiring them. This biological need along with the photoperiod change is setting the stage for antler growth. The next several weeks are when the foundation is laid for antler development. Providing a mineral boost right now when lush vegetation can still be scarce gives the bucks a jumpstart on antler development. If you don’t have a mineral regiment on your property message us or give us a call! We can develop and implement one for you immediately.

One of the best tips I have for generating intentional movement within a food plot is to create a diversion. All animals have preferred tendencies when it comes to movement. Feline species love to walk logs, so do foxes. Dog species love to travel known pathways as do skunks, possums and Deer. Deer also love to walk around things, especially things that make corners. These diversions provide a lot of area to walk around and several corners. Turkeys will use the edges of the diversion to find bugs as the bug colonies will use the edges as places to escape. These diversions can provide a lot of useful information for you if you know how and where to plan and place them in your food plot. Location is everything!
