The group was already in punishment mode — arms on fire — paying the price for missing the time requirement. The rep count was given, loud and clear.
Then Jerry opened his mouth.
"Wait, how many reps?"
The group didn't even wait for the workout to get harder before they turned on him like a pack of extremely tired, extremely angry wolves. Jerry got roasted from every direction while his arms were still burning — which, honestly, made it worse.
The reps were never repeated. The suffering, however, was generously extended. All thanks to Jerry.

Today the culture took a hit. Not from a newcomer, not from someone unfamiliar with the ways of The Pit — but from a fully initiated, long standing member. This was supposed to be a moment. Instead what followed was the most painful, drawn out, cringe-worthy game of repeat-after-me that The Pit has ever witnessed. I said the phrase. She butchered it. I said it again. She rearranged the words like she was solving an anagram. I said it SLOWER. She looked me dead in the face and produced something that wasn't even in the same zip code as correct. At one point I'm pretty sure she invented a new language. We went back and forth so many times that I slowly felt every ounce of my coaching credentials leave my body, one after the mo*********ng other.

Grace made her triumphant return today — after a well-earned hiatus, she came back swinging... and squatting, and gasping, and questioning every life choice she's ever made. Welcome back, Grace — we missed you (and apparently, your muscles missed us too)!

In what can only be described as the most dramatic negotiation since a Black Friday doorbuster deal, Bunny and Sister Mary Katherine found themselves at my mercy, willing to do the unthinkable — belt out a song like their lives (and their Spotify queue) depended on it. The lengths these two went to just to hear Bad Bunny drop during their workout was nothing short of legendary. Bad Bunny doesn't come free, ladies. There's a toll. And today, that toll was paid in full, slightly off-key, and absolutely worth every second.
