Nothing will motivate you to learn the exact number of livestock on your farm faster than looking out the window and seeing a flock of buzzards circling one of your pastures.

One minute you’re casually estimating:
“Oh, I think there are about 12 goats in that field…”

The next minute you’re doing a full livestock census:
“1, 2, 3, 4… where’s Daisy? Has anyone seen Daisy? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY BUZZARDS?!”

Five minutes later you’ve counted every goat, sheep, chicken, donkey, horse, and suspicious-looking rock on the property.

Turns out the buzzards were just hanging out.

Your blood pressure, however, may never recover. 😂🐐🐴🐄🦃

Anyone who owns livestock knows this is 100% true:

You can give every animal their own full feeder of high-quality feed, and they’ll still be convinced that whatever is in the next pen is better.

It doesn’t matter if the other bowl has less food, poorer quality feed, or is completely identical. They’ll stretch through fences, shove their friends aside, and risk getting their head stuck just to sample the “better” food next door.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side… but try telling that to livestock. 😂🐐🐄🐑🐖

Natural “rabbit breath freshener” straight from the garden 😂🌿

Mint isn’t just a tasty treat—it’s also a great herb for rabbits in moderation. It can help support digestion, encourage appetite, and add variety to their diet while giving them something fresh and enriching to munch on.

"If I can't buy females only, then I'll just go buy from a box store or commercial hatchery"

Well, That's definitely your decision, but there's a reason most breeders don't offer female day old chicks or ducklings

Most breeders do not s*x their day old poultry.

Breeders cannot compete with commercial hatcheries on price. Most breeders do not have contracts with thousands of stores.

Breeders do not kill all of their males to supply only females. It usually takes the profit from selling the female to feed the male that they are left with.
When breeding, a good male is just as important as females. They are not a byproduct to breeders.

Breeders pay retail for feed, electricity and water just like their customers

A breeder cannot break even selling only 50% of what they produce (females)

Most of the times breeders have better quality and that's why the price is higher.

Breeders breed for the love of the breed, not for mass production and profit.

Expecting a breeder to be as cheap as a commercial operation isn't logical.

So yes, when you come back at a breeder complaining about price, it really hits hard because we are already struggling, and most of the time using our 9-5 to fund our love of poultry.

If the price is too expensive for you, please think about your response.

It's ok to just say Thank you and move along.

Devaluing someone's hard work with price is usually taken as a personal attack.

Purchase price is just the beginning. Quality isn't cheap

Be kind ❤️

If you love to garden...you need goats!
Goat berries are a wonderful thing...and goats make a lot of them. Unlike some other animals - the food is completely digested and contains no w**d seed. The other wonderful thing about goat berries is their high nitrogen content - tied with rabbits - which is a component of quality fertilizer! If you wondered, now you know.
Even better - parasite resistant Kiko - no traces of deworming chemicals in your fertilizer.

Boone just arrived a few days ago, and today we took him out on the trails for the first time—and he absolutely impressed us!

He loaded with no hesitation and acted like a total gentleman the entire ride. Calm, steady, and willing from the start. You would never know he just got here a few days ago.

I can’t take him seriously 😂
