You can't see it well in this picture, but the river empties into a lagoon and beyond the lagoon is Beaufort Sea with sea ice on it. In the summer they run this trip to the ocean. This time of year their are too many polar bears. We are about 8 miles from the ocean. The 2nd picture shows the fog coming up river from the ocean. The 3rd picture is the hill we had to hike to the point to get the 1st picture. BTW we are wearing dry suits so we could cross the channels of the river between us and the hill.
