The 5AM Wake-Up Ride group is comprised of cyclists, runners, world-class triathletes, and people on
bicycles. Bicycle riding is an inherently dangerous sport. The 5AM Wake-Up Ride is not responsible for accidents, injuries, loss, or damage that may arise from the ride itself. The 5AM Wake-Up Ride, or its participants, do NOT assume any liability for your participation.. Proper lights (front and r
ear) and helmets are required for the rides. Additionally, please leave your headphones at home. This is a group ride and we need folks to be able to listen to road conditions. The ride starts at Starbucks on SH 107 (between McColl and Jackson, next to IHOP) in Edinburg. The exact address is: 2724 W University Dr, Edinburg TX 78539. The rides are comprised of the following: a 16-mile beginner-pace [Eddie's Coffee] loop, and a 25-mile intermediate-pace [Airport] loop. The rides take place on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS. The short loop is typically done by 6:15AM, while the long loop comes back around 6:45AM. This is a NO-DROP ride, and the groups tend to ride as fast as the slowest rider can handle. However, we do ask folks to keep at least a *13-MPH* pace. Depending on who shows up, the group may ride as a whole, or it may split-up in various groups according to cyclist abilities. On occasion, there will be an entry-level group that rides an 11-mile [Short] loop. This loop is ideal for those that are training to ride the longer loops. We do ask that folks post on the page or send us a message beforehand to accommodate this type of distance. A SAG (support and gear) vehicle accompanies the slowest group on the 16-mile loop on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There may be additional SAG vehicles for the additional loops depending on availability. For folks new to the ride, we do ask that you make it to the meet-up place before we ride out. This allows the group to get to know you, and to get a better handle on the group category make-up. The groups take off promptly at 05:00AM, so please be on time. The ride takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays year round, including Winter. The ride does not take place during the following: rain, wet roads, fog, or temperatures below 40F. Lately, the group has been going out on Sunday mornings (7AM). The focus on Sunday is on endurance-based and longer rides (40+ miles). Please keep an eye out on the page for details on the Sunday rides.
