Molina was one of the Valley’s most accomplished basketball mentors. While at McAllen Memorial, Molina won 20 games eight times in 14 years and was seven-time Coach of the Year with over 430 wins.
Our RGV Sports Community lost one of its basketball and coaching pillars today.
Erasmo “Mo” Molina an RGV Sports Hall of Fame basketball coach and board member died today. He was 78 years old.
Mo was a legendary coach in our community who won over 500 games in his career with stops at Rio Hondo, San Benito, PSJA, McAllen Memorial and MMA.
Molina was inducted to the RGVSHOF in 2010 and the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor in 2014. He was Vietnam veteran serving for 2 and ½ years in Germany where he attained the rank of SP5. He began teaching and coaching again when he returned home.
Molina, coached numerous successful teams and players, but the legacy he leaves behind are also with his children who are coaching pillars in their own right in son Brian and daughter Lyrissa both carry his legacy with them.
On behalf of the RGV Sports Community we say goodbye to our coach, friend, brother, father, grandfather and teacher. Erasmo Mo Molina.
