Hey everyone! Here are a couple awesome exercise you can implement into your off ice strength training to create upper body strength and explosiveness:

1. Barbell jerk: 3x8-12
⁃ Targets the shoulders, triceps and upper chest. This exercise additionally works stabilizing muscles to maintain balance. This exercise helps develop upper body strength, power, stabilization, and overall athleticism.

2. Kneeling med ball throw for height: 3x8-12
⁃ This exercise complements the BB jerk in creating power through an almost identical movement pattern. This should be completed immediately after the BB jerk. The same muscle groups are targeted, but emphasis is put on speed and power through the movement more than strength. The goal is to move light amounts of weight as fast as possible, whereas in the jerk is slightly more focused on strength.

RIP Brett Roat. Roater was such an amazing coach and person. He was an incredibly big part of so many players lives and always came to the rink with great spirit and energy. I remember Brett believed in me more than most, and always took extra time to talk with me about anything. Having Brett as a skills/strength coach was a true honor and privilege. Thank you so much Brett. You will be greatly missed.
