It’s the first week in May and Mooncusser is in the water ready to go. The spring run of stripers and squid have begun to arrive. It’s time to get out in the rips and tighten some lines.

Sunday 9/12 begins this year’s Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby.
Looks like I will need to bear down for the next several weeks. Hopefully by mid October I will have a fish on the leader board. Good luck to all those that enter. May the best fisherman win.

All indications show that Martha’s Vineyard is going to have an extremely busy vacation season. Summer vacation rentals are booming and the island businesses are gearing up for a larger than normal crowd.
The stripers should arrive on the south side in the next week or so with bluefish to follow by the first week in May. My boat is prepped and ready with a number of improvements. If you are coming to visit and are considering hiring a boat to get you on the fish, I suggest that you plan early. Spring and summer bookings have already begun.

Maybe a little bit early but the day I remove my boat cover for spring prep is the first day of spring for this guy. Lots of cosmetic improvements and new equipment ready to load. BRING ON THE FISH! I am ready

Tomorrow the 75th annual Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby begins. A great time for fall fishing. The challenge of landing a winning bluefish, false albacore, or bonito is daunting. But a day of fishing is still hard to beat. Good luck to all who are in it. I know that I will be giving it my best.

Been a while since I posted an update. Fishing is still quite good. I have a honey hole that has been very good for top water striper action. Add a healthy number of bluefish, an occasional bonito and there is good action on light tackle.

Fishing over the past few days has been excellent. We still are boating quite a few stripers and there are plenty of bluefish to keep the rods bent continuously. Add in sea bass and fluke to make it a great trip.

Gov. Baker and the Dept. of Health are allowing our charter fishing season to begin on May 18. Besides social distancing recommendations, face coverings are required with exceptions for family members. The fish are arriving and the boat is ready for action. Contact me for a booking and we will go have some fun.

The first spring stripers have arrived! It’s time to get the surf gear loaded on the truck and hit the beach. Also watched several hundred gannets pounding a school of herring in Vineyard Haven harbor yesterday. Another excellent indicator. With bait like that the fish will be here.

Spring weather has started and the first stripers will arrive on our south shore in the next week or two. Also it appears that Covid 19 did not have the impact here that it has in other parts of the country. I have spent much of the time preparing the boat for this years charter fishing season. It’s ready to launch now but my plan is to have it in the water in early May. My gut feeling is that many will be anxious to put the virus behind us and get to the beach and do some fishing. I will be ready.
