Happy New Year! 💪🏼🔥🩷🏋️♀️
As we are on the eve of a New Year and 365 days of opportunities to make a positive difference in our lives and that of others, I wanted to share some thoughts that pertain to the gym since many goals and resolutions will begin in the gym tomorrow.
1. NEW GYM-GOERS:
* I once was a newbie who was very self conscious walking in the gym wearing huge, flowy shirts to hide my body and wanting to be unseen as I exercised. If I had not hired my first personal trainer to show me how to use the equipment and teach me proper form for breathing and training, I likely would have felt so uncomfortable and ill-equipped, I may have injured myself accidentally or quit going to the gym altogether. I certainly would not have made much progress. I can NOT imagine life without the gym! It has brought so many positive changes in my health, fitness and overall confidence.
* The gym will be flooded with people in the next few weeks. Those ranging from first-timers, the regulars, and those returning to fitness after some time off. Let's all be encouraging and respectful of one another. We all have goals. Showing up is half the battle! So don't judge yourself or anyone else! Be proud of everyone who shows up!
*If you want some help getting acclimated to the gym, message me so we can work together to help you reach your goals. The best investment you will ever make is YOU!
2. GYM ETIQUETTE:
Set yourself up for success by following a few etiquette tips when you're in the gym.
* Wipe down equipment after use. No one wants to sit or lay in your sweat.
* Save the cell phone use (texting and talking) for after your workout is done. It saves time and helps you maintain focus and momentum during your workout.
* Be safe. Be aware of your surroundings so you don't hit anyone with your barbell or trip over a plate on the floor, etc...
*Re-rack your weights! If you put them on, take them off. Someone may have to halt their workout to clean up after you and that's just not cool at all.
* NEVER walk in front of someone who is in the middle of a set in the free weight area. You could possibly bump them or distract them causing them to drop the weights or injure themselves.
* If someone is on a machine or has equipment you need, politely ask if you can "work in" (after they have finished the set, not during). Sometimes they will let you or sometimes they will finish up faster so you can use it. If they say no, be prepared to do an alternate movement or go to your next exercise on your plan and come back to this one later in the workout.
* Keep your BO (body odor) in check. Please do put on deodorant, and please don't drown yourself in perfume or cologne.
Happy New Year! I wish you all massive success on all the goals you have set for yourself!
