There are a lot of tough things all around the ranch. You are always aware of the things that can stick you, bite you or crawl all over you while you are outside. Then you come across something like this. It is so beautiful and delicate you wonder how it could possibly survive here. Actually, this time of year there are many different flowers scattered around the ranch, but you have to slow down to see and appreciate them. I guess that is true about a lot of the good things in life.

The antlers are starting take shape. Unfortunately they are not giving me any good daylight looks but with the new moon coming around next week that should improve.

Today is our 59th anniversary. God has blessed me with so much more than I deserve and at the top of the list is my beautiful wife, friend and ranch hand. My grandson says she is the toughest one in the family and his is right. And all of the grandkids say she is "the best Dottsie ever".

The racks are starting to show some distinguishable character. I can identify six of the older deer from last year based on early antler developement, color, tail pattern and, believe it or not, facial features and attitude.

I ran across this little guy the other day. I was fascinated by the pattern on his feathers. It was a little odd that he let me get so close. Today when I zoomed on the pictures I noticed a red spot on his left wing. I'm guessing this guy had a crash landing on his first flight from the nest. Nature can be cruel, but it works.

Due to the weather, I wasn't able to get to the feeders before they went empty for a couple of days. I fully expected to see the deer waiting for me at each feeder. The only interest was from a hungry porcupine who wattled all the way up to my door to thank me. I think he would have loaded up if I had opened the door. That wasn't going to happen!!

First fawn sighting of the season! Even though we see lots of them every year, the first is always the most exciting. I tried to get a better look but Momma wasn't having any of it.
