The rut is officially on at the Crossed K. It smells like someone dropped a bottle of Tink's around the feeders and I caught this buck chasing a doe around noon today ( but she wasn't trying to get away too hard 😉 ). This is the first time I have seen this buck in person this year, but he wasn't concerned about me at all. The buck in the last picture wasn't chasing a doe, but his chilled attitude suggest he might have already caught one.

I guess this is his Halloween costume, dressed up as a big buck

This is the first scrape I’ve seen this year. At the top left of the picture you can see where antlers have broken a piece of a branch. The closeup looks like it has been chewed on, too. This will become a lot more pronounced as the rut gets in full swing as both does and other bucks visit the site.
