As the season starts, we’re well aware that some keepers will be moving up to bigger goals! This can be daunting and understandably many keepers struggle to adjust at first! This is also the stage where most keepers will quit playing because of the fact they concede more goals 👎

Explain to them that this is not their fault and unlike 7 a-side a lot of shots are just out of reach and impossible to get to.

Things to work on to adjust to bigger goals:

Positioning- inches can make the world of difference in bigger goals so make sure your positioning is good to give yourself the best chance to make a save.

Spring: Jumping is massively important to get to higher shots, the more work you can do on this the better

Strong hands: to tip and parry round a post and bar that is further away!

Talk to an experienced goalkeeper coach to help you out on these things!

Lastly, encourage people around you not to criticize but to support keeper when more shots inevitably end up going in because of the bigger goals. Think about if the goals got smaller for strikers and they were moaned at for missing in tiny goals!
