Riverdance performer and Kerry footballer Tomás Ó Sé says Irish dancing has given him better skills on the football pitch, as he gears up for a home soil performance in Killarney.
Ó Sé first joined the dance troupe in 2016 and has since been juggling his dancing commitments with a 2019 call-up to the Kerry senior football team, opening a coffee cart and getting married.
The word 'busy' doesn’t quite cut it. The 30-year-old, from Chorca Dhuibhne, Co Kerry, said he “thrives off” a jam-packed schedule.
'I remember being on tour with a dancing show in the UK and flying home to play a football game with school. After the game I hopped straight in a taxi and flew back over to London,' he said.
'My weeks are hectic, but I consider dancing and performing as my downtime,' he said.
He recalls going to dancing classes as a child and teenager, where he was one of very few boys, many of whom were secretive about the fact they participated in a female-dominated sport.
'I was always fairly thick-skinned and let any negativity fall on deaf ears,' he said. 'The stigma is dying out now and I think Riverdance has played a huge role in that' he added
