DBS post 2: To summarize in a few words, great appointment with
Dr. Sharan and some of his team at Jefferson. We were told that at Jefferson, everyone was there to help and were encouraged to ask anyone any questions we had and shouldn't leave with anything unanswered. The time with Dr. Sharan was very informative. He asked a lot of questions to get to know me and the symptoms I was experiencing. One question I wasn't really expecting was what was I expecting in terms of results from DBS. My sister was with me and in addition to answering my questions, he answered hers as well. He made me feel at ease about DBS and the surgery. And the staff was right ... we didn't leave with any question unanswered.... and I didn't feel rushed... Dr. Sharan spent an hour with me and that doesn't include the half hour or so that others spent with me. Next step is a formal evaluation...I need to be off my medication for 24 hours. In the meantime, he encouraged me to keep up with my exercise programs as he strongly believes that exercise is key for managing Parkinson's. Hmmm...maybe that's why I like him so much. 😁
It's going to be a little while until my next appointment so I may not be posting much related to my DBS experience. If you are considering DBS, don't think you are alone. Please feel free to reach out with any thoughts or questions. I have been lucky to have the support from many family and friends including Carl from Abbott Neuromodulation who has been a valuable resource for me and others at RSBPoconos. I will keep fighting and for the others battling this illness, I hope you do the same. 🥊🥊
