That first CIF issue left a lot to be desired. The gear didn’t lend itself to applications beyond “Does it work?” and if we’re being honest, there isn’t stark difference between the first M16 magazine pouches and a double M4 magazine pouch. Sure, there’s comparison to be made, but functionality there hasn’t been much change.
With this observation I turned my attention to the TAPS gear, or “Issued chest rig”, but that too left me wanting. It was bulky and loose fitting, even when cinched to the body or plate carrier.
Again I was left with the desire for a platform to cover a broad array of tasks, but ultimately the desire for something that did the damn job.

Although hopeful, due to the somewhat growing aftermarket gear selection, I was yet again left with the previous feelings of disappointment. I had no intention of spending half a paycheck on something I could only hope would meet my needs. Even then I knew I’d have to give my kit the ol’ 550 and zip tie treatment.
Thus, the initial spark for Defiant Syndicate had emerged.
