"Exercise more" is the advice almost everyone with type 2 diabetes hears. It's true, but it isn't specific enough to act on.

A 2026 review pooling 34 trials and over 2,400 people put an actual number on it — and found one type of exercise does noticeably more for blood sugar than the rest, for the same effort. We broke down the number, the specific combination that works best, and what it means in practice.

Cardiac rehab has a clear structure and a clear end date. What comes after — sometimes called "Phase 3" maintenance — is a lot less clear, and it's exactly where people who did the hard work of rehab can lose the ground they gained.

We wrote up what Phase 3 maintenance actually looks like in practice: what changes once formal rehab ends, what to watch for, and how a program can pick up where cardiac rehab leaves off instead of leaving you to figure it out alone.

Boxing-for-Parkinson's programs have grown fast, built around the idea that boxing sharpens balance. It's a compelling story — but two independent research reviews looked for a balance benefit and neither found one.

That's not the whole story, though. A different, less-hyped program called LSVT-BIG — built around large, deliberate movements — does have real evidence behind it for motor function. And there's a real, documented interaction between dietary protein and Parkinson's medication that almost never gets mentioned.

We wrote up what the research actually supports, and why "boxing hasn't been proven to help balance" isn't the same as "boxing is a waste of your time."

Muscle doesn't just decline with age on its own schedule. Part of it is that older bodies get worse at turning protein into muscle — the same meal that would build muscle at 30 does less of that at 65, unless there's enough protein in it.

Research on this is pretty specific: getting roughly 25–30 grams of protein in a single meal is what actually triggers muscle building in older adults, more so than the same amount spread thin across the day. Under about 20 grams in a meal, the effect is blunted. That's a chicken breast, or a couple of eggs with Greek yogurt, or a solid scoop of protein powder — not a huge ask, but very different from a piece of toast and a coffee.

This isn't about bulking up. It's about keeping the muscle you have, which is what actually determines whether you can carry your own groceries, get off the floor without thinking about it, and stay steady on your feet, at 70 and 80.

So — what do you actually eat after a workout? Not what you think you should eat. The real answer.

Most people who end up at RSF thought about it for a while first.

Not because they didn't want to. Because it's hard to picture. Who else is in the room. Whether everyone else already knows what they're doing. Whether the person leading the class is going to look at them the way a regular gym sometimes does.

Here's what's actually true about ours: RSF was built around medical fitness from the start, with a physician co-founder, Dr. Cathy Hahn, involved from day one. The people training here are managing Parkinson's, recovering from cancer treatment, working on balance, working around a cardiovascular or metabolic condition, or just getting back to moving after years away from it. That's not a side program — it's most of who's in the room on any given day.

The photo above isn't staged. It's an actual class, actual people, at the actual RSF studio in East Rochester.

If you've thought about coming in but haven't yet — what's the part that would make you hesitate? Not the polite answer. The real one.

"Exercise more." Two words, handed to a lot of people right after some of the hardest news they've gotten — a diagnosis, a surgery, a number on a chart that changed everything.

Nobody hands over the rest of it. How much is enough. What's actually safe to do with a new joint, a new heart rhythm, a body that doesn't move the way it used to. What it's supposed to feel like, and what means stop. Whether the person leading a class has any idea what they're looking at when they see you.

We hear pieces of this constantly, and we'd rather hear it directly from you.

For anyone who's been handed a diagnosis and told to "exercise more" — what did nobody actually explain to you?
