From persimmon to precision. Fairway woods have come a long way ๐โโ๏ธ
Teagan gives you a brief history of fairway woods through the last few decades and shows you how these clubs, once carved from wood, are now engineered for distance and better forgiveness.
The evolution of the fairway wood:
1๏ธโฃ First up, a classic wooden head fairway wood, the MacGregor Persimmon. Very unforgiving. Circa 1970.
2๏ธโฃ Next, the Taylormade Pittsburgh Persimmon. With a small profile and a metal head, it was still a pretty unforgiving wood. Circa 1980.
3๏ธโฃ Then, we have the Adams Idea a205. A mid-2000s option. A definite improvement from its ancestors, but not quite endgame yet.
4๏ธโฃ Finally, a 2026 upgrade, the TaylorMade Qi4D. Crafted with different materials from its predecessors, this model provides the ideal blend of distance, forgiveness and playability.
