“I can get on the floor, but I can’t get off the floor.”
That’s something we hear all the time.
And often, it’s not just about strength. It’s about balance, stability, coordination, and confidence in the positions required to actually get up.
That’s why training needs to go beyond basic balance drills like single-leg stance or standing with your feet together and turning your head. Those exercises can help, but at some point balance training needs to become more functional.
If getting up from the floor is the goal, then we need to challenge the positions that actually matter. Half kneeling is a great example. It demands stability, control, weight shifting, and confidence in a very real-world way.
Let’s stop training balance in a way that stays too far removed from everyday life.
Let’s get functional.
