Our soccer team played extremely tough defense tonight against a good Gladwin team. We showed tonight we can successfully play with the best teams in our league despite not winning tonight. I believe this could be the turning point in our season. Our kids continue to play with a lot of class and finished the night with smiles on their face.

Pine River Varsity Soccer Team recorded it's second win of the season as we defeated Burt Lake 4-1. After a scoreless first half Owen Wemple scored off of an assist from Kelsey Nelson with 22:07 to go in the game. The second goal came with 12:55 left on the clock as Nathan Marks scored a solo shot. Less than 2 minutes later Jordan Nelson played a great through ball to Owen Wemple who scored his second goal of the night. Pine River scored the last goal when Jordan Nelson dribbled the length of the field through Burt Lakes defense and scored our final goal. Daniel Leydet was in goal with 10 saves. Bucks Soccer is in action again on Thursday night against McBain NMC at home at 5 pm.

Pine River played Big Rapids Crossroad Academy today at Pine River. Pine River had an all around improved game as they won their home opener 5-0. Jordan Nelson started the scoring, hitting his first goal of the game with only 8:56 off the clock. With 19:37 left in the first half Jordan completed his second solo goal of the night as he hit a 15 yard shot from the left side to make the game 2-0.

In the second half of action Senior midfielder Carter Lewis scored his first goal of the season with 14:39 seconds left in the game on an assist from Jordan Nelson. The second goal of the half was scored with only 4:15 remaining in the game when Freshman Owen Wemple made a nice cross to Freshman Raegan Wanstead for her first goal of the season. Carter Lewis finished out the scoring on an assist from Raegan Wanstead with only 2:12 remaining.

Junior Nathan Marks filled in for our missing starter Daniel Leydet and injured backup goalie Freshman Brody Swanson in goal recording 4 saves in the first half of the game. In the second half Senior Kate Mitchell came in to relieve Marks as she added 3 more saves to record a shutout game against Crossroads.

The win is the first win of the season bringing the Pine River Bucks to 1-1-1 on the season. The Bucks will be hosting the Wildcats of Lakeview High School at home on Thursday. Game time is at 4:30 pm.

Friday, August 19th we traveled to Cadillac Heritage to play our second game. Our team showed great improvement over last game with much better ball movement and defensive balance. We ended in a 1-1 tie. Our next game is Wednesday, August 24th against Big Rapids Crossroads Academy at home at 5. Come out and support the team.

Wednesday, August 17th we will start our 2022 season with a conference matchup against the Clare Pioneers at Clare Brookwood Athletic Complex, 688 Ann Arbor Trail, Clare, MI 48617. Game starts at 5pm. Come cheer on our 2022 Pine River Bucks Soccer Team.

Pine River Soccer Alumni... the 2022 PR Soccer team is looking for former PR soccer players to scrimmage with them on Friday 8/12 from 6:30-8. We would like to get a little full field action and get a chance to see you again. Please pass this on so that we can get at least 11 players to help us out.

Today's the day, Monday, August 8th. First day of tryouts! We will meet today in Mr. Thompson's room at 5 pm. Bring plenty of water, running shoes, cleats, and shin guards. If you have a classmate who is tough enough to play with us, bring them along.

We've completed our last week of camp and conditioning. We have made a lot of progress. The real test comes August 8th when we start tryouts. We still have a couple of openings available. If you think you have what it takes show up for tryouts at 5 pm.
