King of the Courts: The Battle for One-Wall Supremacy Returns to Edison Park
One of the most anticipated events in the world of One-Wall Handball is back — King of the Courts is set to take over Edison Park in Queens, New York, on July 19–20, continuing a legacy that began over two decades ago. This iconic tournament, famously known as the KING OF THE COURTS Tournament, draws over 100 elite athletes from New York City, across the United States, and even internationally. Whether you’re a die-hard handball fan or just love high-level competition, KOTC is an event you won’t want to miss.
Hosted and sponsored by the St. Albans Handball Association — founded by Dwight Worley, Karen McConney, and Gladys Miranda — King of the Courts has become more than just a tournament. It’s a proving ground. A battlefield. A legacy in motion.
The tournament began in 1998, with the legendary John “Rookie” Wright claiming the very first crown and going on to secure a record-setting 7 titles. Other champions have etched their names into handball history, like Timothy “Timbo” Gonzalez with 4 titles, and George “The King” Figueroa, a 3-time champ, who lived up to his royal nickname on the court.
Most recently, in 2024, after years of grinding, top-tier battles, and relentless effort, Gustavo “Tavo” Ruiz finally earned his crown, marking a new era for the tournament. Tavo has been a consistent competitor and crowd favorite, showing that perseverance and passion always find their moment.
But who’s next?
Every year, talent pours in from Florida, New Jersey, California, and sometimes even overseas — with buzz around potential upsets from Ireland, England, and Spain. With the bracket filling up, will we see a rising star shake up the rankings? Or will one of the veterans defend their throne?
The action starts July 19th, with games continuing through July 20th. Registration closes July 7th, so athletes looking to make their mark — time is running out.
Can’t make it to Queens? No worries. The tournament will be streamed live on TensFinest YouTube Channel, giving fans around the world a front-row seat to the handball chaos, passion, and glory.
This isn’t just a tournament. It’s tradition. It’s rivalry. It’s royalty.
