I ran into a friend while out at a park yesterday. We talked and walked. She told me her cholesterol and triglycerides were high. Her doctor wanted to out her on a statin. She wanted to avoid taking a statin.
We talked about bloodwork that her doctor had run and some additional tests she might want to get done.

Cholesterol and triglycerides can be a flag for other things going on in the body.
Hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone) is one thing that can result in high cholesterol and triglycerides.
Make sure your doctor does a full thyroid panel, including T3 and T4, not just TSH.

Our bodies are complex.
I often suggest having your health practitioner do a comprehensive blood panel as an adjunct to our nutrition coaching sessions.
What started out as an appointment you scheduled to talk about why you’re not losing weight may be a window in to something else that needs to be addressed with your health.

Want to schedule your own appointment?
You don’t even have to meet me at the park -we can meet online or in the office.
Email me at [email protected] or call/text me at (716) 239-7995 to schedule.

Maybe we’ll start calling these Sundays in the woods with Amy. 😆

It is not a fun journey to be dealing with health issues.

It is not an easy journey to get healthier, lose fat, and gain muscle.

I get it. I’ve been on my own health journey! 🤪

Frustrated with your body?

Reacting to foods or your environment?
This can include histamine reactions, bloating, discomfort, and even anxiety!

Trying to lose fat and gain muscle, but not seeing progress?

I’d love to work with you!

Nineteen years as a personal trainer.

Fourteen as a Pilates instructor.

Almost twenty years of nutrition coaching.

Plus I’ve been on an accelerated learning curve over the past four and a half years of the health journey I’ve been on.

You’re not alone.
Comment COACH or message me and let’s connect.

You don’t have to figure it all out by yourself anymore. ❤️

Please remember I am not a doctor or medical practitioner. Always consult your health practitioner before making changes to your duet and exercise regimen.

It’s that time of year!

What happens when Fall begins?
• We are inside more: that means less fresh air, less sun exposure, more exposure to indoor air contamination.

• The heat is on: the dust, mold spores, and mites that may be in our ductwork get blown around the house. Heat dries out the air, which dries out our mucous membranes. That leaves us more susceptible to sinus issues. Our skin is our barrier to microbes, toxins, and more. Heat can dry out our skin, potentially creating breaks in our skin barrier.
• The days are shorter: Our circadian rhythm is governed by daylight. We actually produce more melatonin with the shorter days. We need more sleep when the days are shorter!
• Our mental load increases: As summer winds down, the pace of life changes. With school back in session, our schedules can be busier and we may have more responsibilities. Fall is generally a “get things down” time of year, meaning that even adults get down to business with work and personal agendas.

What can you do to help yourself?
• Get outside daily. Studies suggest that we need to shoot for twenty minutes outside three days a week minimum. Studies also show that a ten minute walk after eating has a significant positive effect on our blood sugar. Start with a ten minute walk each day after eating and continue for twenty minutes, if you are able!

• Open your windows every day. Research says that you should open your windows at least once a day for about 15-30 minutes to improve indoor air quality.

• Use a humidifier in your bedroom. Even if your furnace has a built in humidifier, most don’t add enough moisture to the air to help. If your sinuses have suddenly become an issue, it may not be an infection - it may be that your sinuses are dried out.

• Get to bed earlier Let’s all commit to getting to bed a little earlier so our bodies have the opportunity to rest, to heal, and to detox!

A very quick talk about histamine and your digestive system!

Histamine is a topic that we could talk about for hours!
It is vital in our bodies as a part of our immune system response to allergens and infection.
Histamine also plays a role in gastric acid secretion in the stomach.

Problems arise when our bodies produce too much histamine, when they produce histamine in response to things that we used to be fine with, and when our bodies don’t produce enough of the enzymes that break down histamine, like DAO enzyme.

Mast cells, which are one type of cell that produces histamine by “degranulating”, are located throughout the body, including the gut, brain, and skin.
Because of this, histamine issues can cause everything from hives to gut discomfort to anxiety.

My suggestion if you’re having symptoms:
• Keep a food and beverage journal for at least three days. Log everything you eat and drink. Note how you feel after each meal. Make sure if you’re having symptoms like gas or bloating that you note it, even if it’s happening a bit later after a meal.

• See if you can draw any correlation between your symptoms and certain foods or beverages. If so, take those out of your normal diet and see if you feel better.

• DAO enzyme can be helpful when you have a high histamine or high histamine releasing food. I like Seeking Health’s DAO. You can go through FullScript to get 15% off your first order and 10% after that. Same with digestive enzymes.

You then want to figure out WHY your body is having a histamine issue. There are a number of reasons that can happen, including infection (Lyme and COVID are two infections that commonly cause histamine reactions).
Hormone imbalances, like low testosterone, can also cause histamine overload as can hypothalamus issues.
Bloodwork can be helpful to determine cause. I’ve found that some holistic practitioners who use different methods can be very helpful as well.

I am available for nutrition coaching!
