The Recreation Department isn’t just day camps! We had a summer packed with sports, aquatics, and plenty of creative fun. 🏀🎾⚽

From getting active on the courts and fields, to making a splash at the Community Pool, our Exclusively Little program, Art in Knox, and Photography Camp gave our campers and participants lots of ways to learn, play, and have fun this summer!

There was a little something for everyone — and we loved seeing our community get out there and enjoy it all! ☀️

📸 PHOTO DUMP — DAY CAMP EDITION! 📸

As the kids head back to school today, we wanted to take a look back at all the fun we had this summer at the Town of Aurora Recreation Department! ☀️

Our summer at Hamlin Park and JP Day Camps was packed with adventure, laughter, and plenty of memories!

We kicked things off with Mega Camp, where both camps enjoyed mini golf, laser tag, Gaga ball, and more at JP Nicely! We then headed out on some amazing field trips, including the Buffalo Museum of Science, and Explore & More. Plus, we cheered on the World Cup!

Next up was a day of climbing at Central Rock Climbing Gym, followed by a special visit from our Town Historian, Rob Goller.

Week 5 brought even more excitement with a visit from Nickel City Reptile and a trip to the incredible AKG Art Museum. We rounded out the summer with a fun-filled trip to the Grand Island Fun Center!

And, of course, there were tons of games, creek walks, swimming at the Community Pool, crafts, laughs, and good times happening at camp throughout the summer. ❤️

A huge THANK YOU to all of our campers, families, and incredible camp staff for making Summer 2026 one to remember!

Now that summer is officially in the books, we’re already looking ahead and planning another amazing summer for 2027! 🌞

♟️ TRAIN YOUR BRAIN WITH CHESS! ♟️

Looking for a fun way to challenge your brain after school? Join the Buffalo Chess Association for after-school chess lessons! Students of all skill levels are welcome — no prior chess experience is required.

BCA instructors balance competition and fun, helping students learn the tactical and strategic fundamentals of chess while building their skills and confidence. Students will also receive information about local tournaments and other chess-related events throughout the year.

📅 Tuesdays, September 22–December 15 | 10 classes
⏰ 3:30–4:30 PM
📍 Recreation Classroom – 575 Oakwood Ave., Upstairs
🚫 No class 11/17 & 12/8
🔄 Make-up day: 12/15 if needed

📅 Thursdays, September 17–December 10 | 10 classes
⏰ 3:15–4:15 PM
📍 Parkdale Elementary School – Lunchroom
🚫 No class 10/8, 11/26 & 12/3
🔄 Make-up day: 12/17 if needed

Players will be paired by age and ability. A minimum of 6 players is required. Chess boards and pieces are provided!

💲 Cost:
Residents: $150 cash/check | $154.65 card
Non-Residents: $165 cash/check | $170.12 card

Whether your goal is to learn the basics, improve your game, or eventually compete in tournaments, BCA instructors are ready to help students reach their personal chess goals.

Today was not just the last day of day camp but it was also Oliver’s last day! He has been with Hamlin Park Day Camp for 10 fun filled years. We want to thank him for all of his hard work and wish him the best in his future endeavors!
