🏃‍♀️ Holiday Eating Hack #3: The Stay Active Strategy 🎉

Okay, let’s talk movement—because the only thing worse than eating too much during the holidays is sitting still after eating too much.

Quick Tip: Sign up for a Reindeer Run to start your day off with friends. Or you can opt for a casual walk with your family and friends after dinner. Nothing fancy, just a stroll around the neighborhood or through the park to help with digestion (and burn off those extra mashed potato calories). Plus, it’s a fun way to get some fresh air, chat with family, and avoid falling asleep on the couch halfway through the holiday special. 🎄

Pro Tip: IF you end up at a holiday party? No problem—just channel your inner Ilona Maher from Dancing With The Stars. You don’t have to be a pro, just get your body moving! Dancing burns calories, boosts your mood, and, let’s be honest, it’s way more fun than sitting there wondering if anyone will notice how much cranberry sauce you ate. 💃

🍽️ Holiday Eating Hack Tip 2: The Small Portions Strategy 🎉

Alright, let's talk about Small Portions—because, yes, the holidays are all about enjoying the food, but no one wants to feel like they need a post-dinner recovery session. You’ve got everything on the table: roasted veggies, lean meats, stuffing, mashed potatoes—and maybe a few things that are... not so nutritious. But here’s the trick: You can taste it all without going overboard.

The Key? Go for the small plate approach. Yep, skip the giant oval plate that looks like it could feed a small army and grab that cute salad plate instead. It’s a perfect way to take a little bit of everything without the risk of accidentally eating enough to feed that same army.

Here's the game plan: Instead of loading up on giant scoops of mashed potatoes or mac and cheese, take a smaller portion of each dish. A small serving of the mashed potatoes? Perfect. A small helping of green beans or roasted carrots? Yes, please. A little turkey or lean roast chicken? You’ve got this. You’re not skipping anything, just sampling it all—like your personal holiday tasting menu.

This way, you’re keeping it balanced without feeling like you’ve eaten enough for a week in one sitting. Plus, you’re filling up with healthy options (hello veggies!) before you even think about those heavier sides.

And, let's be real, using a salad plate makes you feel like you’ve got your life together, even when you’re just trying to avoid a food coma. 🌱

So, grab that small plate, enjoy a little of everything, and remember: It’s all about balance, not overload.

🎄 Holiday Food Warning: The Mashed Potatoes & Mac and Cheese Trap 🍽️

Let’s be real. The holidays are aesthetic when it comes to food. Those mashed potatoes, perfectly whipped with a mountain of butter and cream, staring at you like they’ve been waiting for this moment all year. And the mac and cheese? Oh, honey, that golden crust is basically calling your name in Morse code.

But here’s the catch: Overeating. We know it’s a thing. And while we’d never dream of insulting your love for carbs and cheesy goodness, let's talk about a little strategy before we enter this food-induced coma that happens during the Holidays.

💡 Pro Tip: Before you dive headfirst into the mashed potato volcano, hit up the veggies and lean meats first. Yep, I said it. Those vibrant green beans? They’ve got your back. The lean turkey breast? It's your preemptive strike against the inevitable nap that follows the "stuff yourself silly" course.

You know how the veggies are always kind of… sad looking? Well, they’re the unsung heroes. They’re the first ones at the table, making sure your body gets the nutrients it deserves before you go full-on cheese-pocalypse. And lean meats are like, "Hey, let’s not eat the entire plate of carbs and feel like we’re carrying a turkey inside us, okay?"

So, when you plate up, give those hearty veggies and lean meats a moment in the spotlight before the mashed potatoes and mac and cheese try to take over your whole life. Trust me, your post-dinner nap will thank you.

And remember: The holidays are about balance. Enjoy the food, but try not to let the mashed potatoes bully you into a food coma. 😜

This month has been tough on everyone here in the upstate.

And while we took a break from raising funds for this event we wanted to provide an update on our progress and give everyone a last chance to donate towards our goal.

I decided to raise $3000 because that amount equates to the average cost of a multi-day stay during a single cancer treatment at a Hope Lodge.

It helps the patient and their family only have to worry about treatment and recovery - not how they'll have to pay to stay somewhere during treatment.

I was lucky to be able to receive my treatments locally. I've had friends who weren't as lucky. As while treatment is important, some women don't have the money (after treatment costs, etc) to pay for a place to stay while getting treatment. And that shouldn't be the reason someone decides not to get treatment.

I know that everyone here in the upstate has been donating - time, money, resources - to the hurricane relief and recovery efforts and we're all pretty tapped right now. But if you've got $5 to spare, I'd love it if you could help us get just a small bit closer to our goal.

Every little bit helps.

I'm re-watching Blue Zones on Netflix. Prepare yourselves...

While watching the episode about Okinawa, they talk about a "Moai" (Pronounced "mo-eye" ). And in a world where sometimes we all feel a bit disconnected, this concept kind of stuck with me.

A Moai is a social group that supports each other through life’s challenges – and successes. 👫 They're there to help each other water plants when they go out of town. They're there to support each other when a member of their group falls on hard times. They have friendships that go beyond social media likes and text messages. They truly support each other in good times and bad.
Who's your "Moai"?

I got a real clear look at mine during cancer treatments in 2020 - yep, the COVID era. It showed me just how much people care and how incredible it is to have a community that supports you.

I believe in the power of community, especially when it comes to important causes like Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Let’s come together like a Moai, supporting each other and raising funds for a cause that affects so many. Together, we can make a difference. 🎗️

I'm excited and scared at the same time...
This coming weekend is the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising walk and just last week I was asked to LEAD THE WARMUP!!

That's standing in front of hundreds of Greenvillians, Breast Cancer Survivors, Fighters, Supporters, and Advocates. I don't love the spotlight but I'm incredibly proud to be in a position to do this. For me, it's personal.

I'm a two-time breast cancer fighter and I love helping people find their way to a healthier life especially after they've faced life's challenges - like cancer. I know that everyone in that audience has a story or experience with breast cancer and I'm incredibly touched that the event organizers asked me to help get everyone warmed up.

Will you be there with me?!

If you want to get involved, here’s how you can Make Strides Against Breast Cancer:
1️⃣ Join our team and walk with us on 10/20/2024
2️⃣ Donate to support the cause
3️⃣ Spread the word by sharing this post with your friends

Every step, every dollar, every voice counts.
