What a weekend for Lower Providence Junior Trap at the Colonial Classic in Elysburg!

Making the trip to Elysburg each year is always exciting. The PSSA - Pennsylvania State Shotgunning Association hosts one of the largest lineups of trapshooting events of the season, and the facility itself is truly impressive. For some of our newer team members, it can even feel a bit overwhelming at first.

This is where our athletes step onto the line alongside not only other youth competitors, but some of the finest shooters in the Mid-Atlantic—and in many cases, the country. It's also a unique opportunity for our youth shooters to compete alongside and be supported by the members of Lower Providence Rod & Gun Club, many of whom they have grown to respect and admire.

The competition is intense, the expectations are high, and the environment challenges every shooter to be their best. This year, our team rose to the occasion.

🏆 Weekend Highlights

• Nate Eckert – Junior Runner-Up, Doubles

• Joseph Wehrberger – Shot his first 50 straight, posted a personal-best 97 in Singles, then topped it all off with a 98 to become the Overall Handicap Champion on Sunday, earning an additional 1½ yards.

• Sophia Bux – Class B Runner-Up

• Mikey DePolo – Class D Runner-Up

• Tyler – Shot an outstanding 99 in Sunday's Singles Event

• Nick – Shot a personal best and broke his first 50 straight

• Nathan Richter – Tied for Junior Runner-Up in the Handicap Championship and competed in his first-ever shoot-off, ultimately earning a 3rd-place finish

While the trophies and recognition are exciting, some of the most meaningful moments never appear on the scoreboard.

It's seeing a shooter break their first 25 straight.

It's watching Nick walk off the line after his first 50 straight and personal best.

It's seeing Henry's smile after posting a personal-best 90.

It's witnessing Joseph accomplish goals he had been chasing for years and then exceed them all in a single weekend.

These moments matter.

The kids work incredibly hard, and their dedication continues to pay off. Just as rewarding is seeing the pride on the faces of parents who have supported them every step of the way.

To the members of Lower Providence Rod & Gun Club, our volunteers, our families, and our dedicated sponsors—thank you. None of this happens without your continued support and generosity.

The lessons learned on the trap field extend far beyond competition. These young athletes are building discipline, confidence, sportsmanship, and friendships that will last a lifetime.

They aren't just the future of our team—they are the next generation of trapshooters.

Prior to our team event at the Delaware State Trap Championship tomorrow, We wanted to report on last weekend at the PSSA - Pennsylvania State Shotgunning Association where a few of our team mates participated in the Keystone Open event. Joseph W. stepped it up, and has a lot to be proud of as he earned the Jr Handicap Champion trophy! This young man has worked hard to consistently strengthen his skills, and he has a lot to be proud of! As for tomorrow... wear your boots, bring a rain coat, and be prepared to tackle the 200 singles state championship!

While much of our team was competing at PEN-MAR, a few of our athletes made the trek to the New York State Trap Shoot.

Nate, Sophia, and Joseph challenged themselves on a much bigger stage and did an incredible job representing Lower Providence Junior Trap and all of our amazing sponsors. We’re incredibly proud of their willingness to step outside their normal routine, test their skills against strong competition, and represent our program with class and determination.

A special congratulations to Nate Eckert, who clearly found his groove at the event! Nate was Runner-Up in Junior Doubles in the Guerini Cup Championship, Runner-Up in B Class for the 200 Browning Singles, posted the 6th highest overall score in the Championship Caps event while taking the Junior Championship award, and earned C Class HOA for the overall event. An outstanding showing on a big stage!

Opportunities like these are exactly what youth trap sports are all about — building confidence, experience, growth, and giving these athletes the chance to see what they’re capable of when they push themselves outside their comfort zone. Great job representing LPJT!

Another great PEN-MAR Youth Trap Shoot in the books, and absolutely worth the trip!

A big thank you to the Mason-Dixon Clay Busters youth members and coaches, Glen Rock Shooting Club, and Roger & Marcia Beardsley for their long-standing commitment to this event and to youth shooting sports throughout the region. Events like this don’t happen without the time, energy, and dedication of people who truly care about creating opportunities for the next generation of shooters.

This year, we had 10 team members in attendance, including several first-year team members getting valuable experience on the line. We also had plenty to celebrate! Mikey earned High Overall for the event, Lorenzo captured 3rd Place in Sub-Junior, and Stella shot a personal best — a score she has already gone on to beat!

None of this would be possible without the continued support of our dedicated sponsors. Their commitment allows our program to grow, develop, and provide these opportunities for our youth shooters:

The parents, athletes, coaches, our club, and all of our incredible sponsors have a lot to be proud of. Watching these team members grow in skill, confidence, and sportsmanship is what makes weekends like this so rewarding.

The Lower Providence Junior Trap team is a true team effort, built by a dedicated group of volunteers working behind the scenes nearly year-round. For our youth competitors, the season officially kicks off with the Pine Valley Youth 300 Open—and what a way to start.

The members of Pine Valley Gun Club go above and beyond to not only welcome youth competitors from across the region, but to truly set the standard for what a youth event should be. This event provides an incredible opportunity to introduce new team members—and often their families—to how competitions operate, while also giving our seasoned shooters a chance to knock the dust off and begin focusing on the season ahead.

This year, the Lower Providence team delivered an outstanding performance, and we were honored to have the awards presented by Richard Marshall, a nationally recognized ATA Champion and host Trap Talk From The Back Fence
