Over the weekend, someone I know died by su***de.

I’m really sad about it.
And it reinforced something I think we all need to hear more often:

Check on your people.
Call them. Text them. Send a carrier pigeon if you have to.

Tell your friends you love them. Tell them you’re thinking about them. Ask how they’re really doing—and actually give them the space to answer.

You never know what someone else is carrying.
I’m learning that being a strong man and being a vulnerable man are not opposites.
I can feel my feelings. I can talk about them. I can tell people when I’m struggling. And I can tell the people I care about that I care about them.

That shouldn’t be weird.
So check on somebody today.

Your bike makes one weird noise and you bring it to a professional.
Your brain makes weird noises for three years and somehow the plan becomes, “I’ll probably figure it out.” 😂
We hire help for everything else.
Cars. Houses. Bikes. Taxes. Plumbing.
But when it comes to our mental health or physical health, we suddenly act like we’re supposed to know everything ourselves.
I’ve learned that lesson the hard way.
Getting a therapist was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my mental health. Huge shoutout to Emalea Landgraff for being in my corner.
And this week I hired Hugh at Built Uncommon to help with my training, nutrition, and accountability.
Immediate difference.
There’s something powerful about having an actual human paying attention, expecting you to show up, and helping you see the stuff you can’t always see yourself.
So if you’ve been thinking about hiring a therapist, coach, trainer, or someone else to help you get where you’re trying to go:
Hire the human.
Asking for help isn’t failing the test.
It’s hiring someone who studied for it. 🤘
