40" of smallmouth...1 rod, 2 flies and conditions that don't happen every year. has made the trek over the last 5 or 6 years to fish prespawn smallmouth. This year he nailed the timing but the weather was terrible...30+ mph wind and 10° falling water temps every night. We prevailed by throwing the donkey rig with Big birds. The rig turned a slow day into a day I won't forget anytime soon. 3 times we doubled up on a single rod. Netting them is the toughest part😅 Even put a dudes first WI musky on the board.

5" NMF Sipping minnows in the shallows this time of year can be outstanding, especially when there are rainbow smelt or cisco. Musky, pike and smallmouth will focus on this super fatty food source. They are not big targets but will often be found in huge numbers. Be early and stay late as most of the action is at changing light!
