Oklahoma State University Ice Hockey Club was founded by university students looking to fulfill a passion for hockey and a want to bring people with similar passion together. The club began as an intermural recreational sports club governered by the OSU board of intermural athletics. As the club began to grow new members wanted to reach further and began recruiting heavily on campus and state-wide
while also attempting to bring on more sponsors and raise funds to offset the costs that playing a sport such as ice hockey can bare. The club found success in gaining additional funds from the University as well as brought on board skilled members for its team. They began collegiate play against other college club teams in late 1999. The club joined the WCHL the following year and began regular play against teams such as Texas, UNT, Texas Tech, Baylor, University of Houston and Texas A&M. The teams played home and away games and meet neutrally at rinks in northern Dallas. OSU's interim coach during this time was multiple Stanley Cup Winner and former OKC Blazers Head Coach Mike McEwen. Note: OU at this time did not have a fully fledged program. In 2001 the WCHL teams decided to take their play to another level and join the American Collegiate Hockey Association which is a governing body of non-Varsity athletic programs (NCAA ineligible/ Title IX restricted). OSU began play along with most of the WCHL teams in their own regional division of ACHA Division III. By 2003 the OSU Ice Hockey Club had more new members coming in and most of the clubs current leadership had graduated or would be leaving soon.
