After a year of silence, mishandling, and retaliation, I am finally speaking up.
On October 25, 2024, while volunteering at Darnell-Cookman’s Homecoming dance, I was physically assaulted by two parents on school grounds. I had simply approached their vehicle to address their child’s behavior during the event and was met by violence.
Instead of being supported by my school and DCPS as the victim, I was met with retaliation, blocked job opportunities, false information spread about me and an environment that made me feel unsafe and unwelcome.
I went on FMLA for my mental health on November 1, 2024 and upon my attempt to return to work in January I was told my accommodations could not be met.
After speaking with HR and my Principal regarding my employment options I resigned only because I was told I could continue coaching — and even that was taken away based on false or outdated information.
DCPS Professional Standards closed my case with no wrongdoing on my part on 12/18/2024, yet the administration continued to tell me I wasn’t able to coach and spread that narrative to the Athletic Director and other employees until 9/30/2025.
Employees were told that I wasn’t allowed on campus — with zero documentation to support that.
They used my name to retaliate against other employees who remained in contact with me during this time.
I gave over 16 years of service, passion, and dedication to Duval County Public Schools as well as almost 3 years to Darnell-Cookman’s students, staff, and community. I deserved better.
This is not about revenge.
It’s about accountability, transparency, and change.
I am sharing my story now because silence only protects the wrong people.
