Spruce Hole Cross Country Skiing

Spruce Hole Cross Country Skiing Classic Ski Trails around Spruce Hole in Durham, NH. Network of ski tracks on paths and logging cuts. Usually tracked after snow storm. Come ski with us!

Nordic ski trails for "classic" skiing. Man-mad tracks hopefully available after each snow storm. Tracks are skiable even with as little as 1 inch of snow, when most other places have melted. Come check us out for a quiet "kick and glide" through the beautiful woods of Spruce Hole.

Season is over! Hopefully better and more continuous snow conditions next season.

Note: Major logging operation in Oyster River Forest (should soon be renamed to Oyster River meadow !). The pump line road is plowed, but plenty of ski trails left to ski on. Turn left into the cemetery and you can follow 2 + miles of trails from there. The skiers of Spruce Hole are in the process of establishing ski tracks. It takes a few ski-overs to firm the tracks up to reasonable levels with 15 - 20 inches of fluffy snow. Come on out and help us! Parking is at corner of Mill Road and Packers Falls Road.

Smooth skiing yesterday morning. All tracks have been established; except the pumpline road (major through road) because some conservation activity (I am guessing) down by the Oyster River with a skidder. The road is plowed but still skiable on hardpack/ice. Better just stay on logging cuts. Spruce Wood access road is excellent and still has over 5 inches of snow.

1 hour of skiing today. Fabulous conditions! All connectors are snow covered. Spring like snow with a very firm base (recent sleet storm) of 1 - 5 inches.
One of the logging cuts near the Hole.

The 2 inch storm of today covered up the icy bumpy mess quite nicely. I tracked for 75 minutes tonight. Should be nice tomorrow

Tracks have been layed by me and some partially unknown "helpers", possibly Santa's elves. Otherwise mostly postholed by dogs (no problem) and walkers / snowshoers (a problem!).
I have skied already over 8 hours on fast waxless skis.
