The Wilson Recreation Center located on West Campus is the larger of the two recreation centers on campus. facility completed in 1999, the center boasts three basketball-volleyball courts, 2 wood floor multi-purpose rooms with mirrors that are used for a variety of aerobic classes, yoga, Pilates, martial arts and self-defense activities. These rooms are also used by Group Fitness, PE classes and d
ance groups. The center also houses two classrooms and administrative offices . The varsity swimming and wrestling programs also practice in Wilson. The administrative offices for Facilities, Campus Recreation, Intramural, Club Sports and Health, Wellness and Physical Education (HWPE) are located in Wilson. Wilson offers a 3 lane indoor 160 meter mondo track, 2 racquetball courts, Quenchers, a snack bar that provides healthy drinks and snacks following a tough workout or when you are craving a refreshing alternative. Duke University’s spacious Taishoff Aquatic Center, completed in 1972, serves as the home for the Duke University swimming and diving teams. In the past, the facility has hosted many major meets, including the AIAW Women’s National Swimming Championships (1978), the National Junior Olympic Swimming Championships (1979), the NCAA Diving Regionals (1979), the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships (1979, 1983, 1984) and the New South Collegiate Invitational (1986), as well as numerous state championships. The facility boasts a 25-yard, eight-lane racing pool with seven-foot lanes and a depth tapering from 4 ½ feet at each end to a depth of seven feet in the center. Other features include custom built stainless starting blocks and ample spectator seating. An eight-lane Omega electronic timing system with a full eight-lane display board is used for all collegiate meets. The facility includes one of the few indoor 10-meter towers in the Southeast, as well as five and seven-meter platforms. The facility also has two one-meter and two three-meter springboards, equipped with maxiflex boards. The separate diving well measures 66 feet by 42 feet with a depth of 17 feet. The Brodie Center is located on East Campus. The facility opened in 1994 as an addition to Memorial Gym that was opened in 1935. The majority of infrastructure is in the pre-existing structure. Brodie measures at 50,000 square feet and offers 4 basketball-volleyball wood floor courts, a classroom, weight room 2 racquetball courts and a multi-purpose room with mirrors that is used for aerobic classes, yoga, Pilates, Martial arts and self-defense and dance groups. The center also houses administrative offices. Brodie is practice home to women’s varsity volleyball and Intramural basketball games, P.E. and aerobic classes. Brodie Pool is a 4 lane, 25 yard Brodie Pool located in the Brodie Recreation Center on Duke’s East Campus for open swim, stroke clinics, private and semi-private lessons. The Brodie Pool and associated locker room facilities are located on the ground floor of the Brodie Recreation Center.
