“Look at those blushing ladies”
I’m in love.
I used to worry that Winston was a black hole for all my soft, gooey, love, but I’ve learned that was a silly concern, that love grows as it deepens and we expand it to more people and things. Perhaps I’m immature that it took me so long..
Then this season hit and again I’m sincerely wondering how there could possibly be “room in my heart” for anyone else, with experiences like this. I’m so in love with fall, with the San Juans, with the aspects of my life that have conspired to keep this dream alive, from the roads here to Winston, to the humans that lived here before me, right up to the city of Durango and to my parents. So many things had to collide to create these moments we live in. And we get to live then as if it’s not a shockingly huge deal!
Hope you’re enjoying it 🙏..

Today was a good day.
20 miles one-way (hitched back), almost zero calories, great audiobook, some life giving raw water from the San Juans, blasting sun, and just past-peak colors to share with you all. Check my story the next 24 hours for more from the run, and maybe another post or two. This is a yearly pilgrimage for me, this route in fall colors. Next up is Missionary Ridge for similar reasons 🍂 🍂 .. good thing I’m training it, or my heart might explode with gratitude. ..

Growing up I stumbled onto the value of being “the only” to steal a trendy phrase from . Being the only blond dude in a room of Latino or Black or Asian people has an interesting feel to it, something I’ve missed living in Colorado. It’s fun to seem so visibly ‘out of place!’
India last year sparked that part of me back to life. And being unable to run made for a perfect opportunity to dive fully into new types of people. I’ve slowly surrounded myself with people who see the world drastically, even diametrically, different than I do. And the same feeling is the back. I get the same giddiness at the near-overwhelming abundance of clashing views and novel experiences to hear about and learn from. And ultimately I hope to incorporate all greatest parts of everything and everyone that comes my way, refining who I am but also discovering myself, my self, in the socially charged mirror of my fellow humans.. just some thoughts to share today.
Back to training (120 miles/week for 6 weeks) starting Monday, with monk mode living.. is next up of course 🙏🙏🙏
thanks for reading, and please critique me ❤️
Shots by since no one else could get me to stare at a camera lens like this! ..

Moment of attuning captured by ...
It really is unfair (to our benefit) that we’ve inherited dogs. The modern human’s inability to train an animal that our ancestors were able to domesticate from wild wolves is shameful. But the reward for channeling that primate energy, the energy inside us that managed to control a wolf, is pure joy. I’m convinced that’s always the case: we feel joy in response to alignment, call it god, God, genetic memory, The Master Plan, etc, but the sensation is the same. Maybe we should stop trying to transcend our humanity and instead try to live up to it, in its highest form 🙏. Since I only have 60 ish years left, give or take quite a bit, it seems like that quest is enough, a life time of work at my pace.. anyway, attuning with Winnie is such a blessing, and I have no way of repaying everyone that came before me that made this possible, truly a gift with the only string attached being our obligation to give these critters an appropriate life ❤️..

The mix of emotions captured here is interesting. maybe?! This lighting was from a tent wall with afternoon sun hitting it, and I felt a little like a tourist attraction while we took these, or a zoo animal...
I love talking with people directly, sharing ideas, but connecting via social media can feel too shallow and one-way for me. Recently, with all the responses from you all, I’m realizing there’s still a real connection to be made..
I’m positive that I’m learning huge lessons from my pursuits, and it would be extremely selfish not to at least TRY to share. So here I am, staring into a camera and pretending to not be uncomfortable, for the sake of a more real connection with you all, avoiding being swept aside by IG algorithms, being vulnerable with a camera, not just bold with my thoughts/words. To be fair is super pleasant to work with, but still, a camera isn’t a person.

It’s been a fun project these last few years and I’m about to put it to work, getting as juicy as wants to tonight for another Live -this time on his page. ..

While nursing this mystery shin injury the last 8 weeks, the style training has been fun: get out and play, no pain allowed, use as few resources (of any kind) to do as much as possible... but tentatively, if you’ve been watching my stories, my comeback (to running) is on.
I’d assert this is the most well-rounded my fitness has been in years, maybe ever, with heavy kettlebell swings, unilateral strength work, a few epic bike rides, as much heat as I ever train with, plus loads of balance work and barefoot/minimal footwear time. I’m not sure what the final takeaway will be, but I’m certainly observing how this all settles for me, trying to be receptive to whatever comes up.
Perhaps it’s simply relearning what I love about running, the heavy breathing where it feels like every valve in my body is wide open, or the repetitive impact of my feet on the earth, lulling my monkey brain, facilitating the calm clarity I’ve been used to for so many years.
I ran 3.5 miles this morning, give it take a little, didn’t measure it, didn’t need to. And it was Everything 🙏
Thanks for following along, through my longest lasting running injury to date. The Dream is more alive than ever, with more perspective than ever.
🙏🙏🙏
Thanks again to for having your camera on you and capturing me doing me 🐒, always a privilege...

You’re all great, and seeing the crew at is always great. Tushars was amazing and I’m on the mend with the right hands and eyes on me here in Phoenix. But I certainly miss my little man already!
Gotta get healthy so we can run together again before the month is up, and I can keep us both fed. The amount of high quality beef we consume ain’t cheap after all! ..

1st shot: “He’s you’re son, you love him so much” looking at Winnie
2nd: finally stopped smiling for a serious blue steel shot, after laughing off “you’re a warrior,” to which I responded “But I’m a happy warrior”
3rd shot: the realization that this is actually my life, playing in the wilderness with some amazing bohemians, while shooting for social media basically fulfills the work demands for the trip
4th: realizing that actually managed to make this kinda fun (taking pics is the least comfortable thing I do regularly)
5th/last: lemme hear your best caption! Can be funny, but my preference would be for accuracy -what do you think I’m thinking?
Winner will get something special, although you might need to pick it up in Durango, we’ll work it out..

Been dragging my feet as I try come up with something more profound to say, but really caught Winston’s essence in these. Seeing as he’s 8+ years old, and truly at his peak, it feels like a perfect time to catch these. They really do stir my heart in that special way only Winnie does. I can’t settle on which one I like the most, but I have a feeling one of these will end up tattooed on my body... I thought I did but never fully understood what “relaxed and alert” -a classic description of how to hold yourself during formal meditation- meant. This is what is looks like 🙏
So grateful to for freezing this in time for my memory, so much power here. 😌
I’m really drawn to the curiosity on display in the last one..

And that's that. The Durango experience draws to a close. One incredible week as we descended on the Ultrahouse home of to soak up his lifestyle and explore the incredible opportunities of Southwestern Colorado. Many miles ran, many mountains climbed, many rock faces scaled and much love shared. But wait...is it really over? 🤔
No. Is the short answer. The Ultrahouse experience is never over. The dirt-bag drop house doors are always open. Most of us are still lingering around and figuring out ways to stay here in CO as long as possible. And in a weird twist of events, went to Arizona and is currently staying in the Phoenix studio 🤔 Travel freely, act on impulse, open your heart. Need a place to crash? Oh joy...
You’re welcome cyclists. Now your sport is a bit cooler. I know, I know, it’s a drop of water for a person melting in hell.. seriously though, running is SO much better. But during this de facto off season, the potential adventures on a bike are a bit more easy to love. Certainly need to do a Silverton round trip (100 miles with two legit mountain passes) and if I pull that off I might try something a bit more epic.. stay tuned. I might just stay home on the read mill and keep Groundhog Day going for another 4-5 weeks ;)
The second pic needs an explanation: I’ve been biking down to a perfect spot on the Animas River, (hence they floaty belt) in the 40-something degree water, then biking home disoriented from hypothermia. And the pack has made that possible. Couldn’t love this thing more than I do!
For now I’m in Tempe/PHX for a little extra oxygen for a few hours! Maybe bike down here next month 🤔..
