On July 20, we invite you to join us at the Dunkirk Fairgrounds as we pay tribute to John Glair. Race 6, 3-Year-Old Pace Colts and Geldings, has been designated as the John Glair Memorial Race in recognition of his contributions to harness racing. Spend the afternoon with us as we celebrate John's legacy and the many memories he created within our racing community.

John's family writes:
"John Glair started training and racing standardbreds in 1963. His first horse was a pacer named Orvie Hal. Over the 1970s-1990s, he trained numerous trotters and pacers at Buffalo Raceway, Batavia Downs, fair races, and NY Sire Stakes. He averaged a stable of 15 horses wearing the colors of blue, white, and gold.

John operated Trottin' Tack, at Buffalo and Batavia. For 30 years, he fixed wheels, sold horse needs and racing equipment to all of the track folks. He was very active in the Western New York Harness Horse Association.

John Glair was fair, wise, and kind to everyone. He was a harness racing leader and is missed by many."

Join us on July 20, 2026, at the Dunkirk Fairgrounds as we honor the memory of Gary Gregory. Race 8, featuring 3-Year-Old Trot Colts and Geldings, has been designated as the Gary Gregory Memorial Race. Come out for an afternoon of great racing as we celebrate Gary's memory and the impact he had on our racing community.

Gary's grandson, Eric, writes:
"Gary Gregory is remembered for his patience, calm demeanor,
and endless pool of both horse and life knowledge - not just by
the horsemen throughout the country he counted as friends, but
by his children, Jeff and Kathy, and grandchildren, Eric and
Colleen.

Gary was born May 4, 1944 in Medina, New York to George and
Dorothy Gregory. While still in school, he started working around
horses with his father and received his first training license in
1962 at the age of 18. In 1964, Gary married Sue Caleb, also of
Medina, and eventually settled in Churchville with his young
family.

He eventually set off on his own and started a public stable that
quickly became very successful. In a very short time, Gary
became known as a “go to guy” when people were looking for a
trainer because of his honesty and integrity. He trained more than
300 horses during his career, including 51-time winner Keystone
Astro, Brandywine Jet, Spitfire Lauxmont, Coaltown Smoke, and
Bold Collins. He also trained Rambling Roxie, the horse driven by
his son Jeff for his first of more than 7,000 career wins.
Gary was a member of the United States Trotting Association,
Canadian Trotting Association, Western New York Horsemen’s
Association and was inducted into the Upstate New York Harness
Racing Hall of Fame in 2012.

Gary Gregory passed away October 22, 2025, predeceased by
his wife Sue."

Then, keep the fun going at the Chautauqua County Fair, July 21–26, with great food, entertainment, exhibits, rides, and something for everyone.

We can't wait to see you at the track and at the fair! 🎡

The Dunkirk Fair on July 2, 2026, at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds was a fantastic way to kick off the 2026 fair racing season. Although it was a hot summer day, a refreshing breeze made the heat much more comfortable for everyone in attendance.

Fans enjoyed an exciting 13-race card featuring 2- and 3-year-old pacers and trotters, with a great turnout of horse racing enthusiasts filling the grandstand and cheering on the competitors.

The fair offered something for the whole family, including a petting zoo, delicious food trucks, a foam party for the kids, and plenty of other activities throughout the day.

To wrap up a memorable afternoon of racing, the crowd was treated to a fun-filled miniature pony race featuring Shawn McDonough, Kyle Cummings, and James McKnight Jr.. Their friendly competition brought plenty of laughs and smiles, making it the perfect ending to a wonderful day at the fair.
