Incorporated in 1946, Newberg Rod and Gun Club is one of the oldest gun clubs in Oregon, and the only shot gun club in Yamhill County. The club was heavily involved with the Newberg Volunteer Fire Department during the early years, and hosted an annual Turkey shoot to benefit t
he Fire Dept. Clarence Heater, one of the original founders of the club, later became the first paid fire chief for the Newberg Fire Department. During the seventies, the club was some 200 strong and hosted numerous shooting events. Prizes were significant, a Bass boat was even given away at one shoot. During the nineties, membership declined, and the club struggled to maintain its existence. The club has seen renewed interest and participation over the last decade and is currently growing in membership. Today, Newberg Rod and Gun Club has about 100 active members, and expects that to grow over the next few years. The club has worked hard to improve its facility and to create a family friendly environment. The club house was renovated with a brand new kitchen and new bathrooms expected in the near future. NRGC is also planning to make a number of ADA improvements to make the club totally accessible to disabled shooters. Youth shooters are welcome at NRGC and there are usually experienced shooters who are willing to help out new shooters, youth or adult. The club is currently open to the public on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 10:00 for regular trap shooting and shooting games, and every other Sunday for practice. In addition, the club has other shooting days and special events for members only. At $20 for adults and $10 for youth, annual membership is a bargain. NRGC also hosts a number of fun shoots during the course of the year that are open to the public. Check our calendar often to get updated information on shooting events!
