Please share, circulate, and get involved. May 2025 members of Kissimmee River Valley Sportsman Association (Dana & Brad Weihrauch), Florida Airboat Association (Brad Weihrauch, Tom Schmidt, Larry Daniels, Bishop Wright Jr) , Florida Sportsman Conservation Association (Bishop Wright Jr), Marshall Jones from Mack's Fish Camp met with SFWMD Staff; Rory Feeney, Exec Dir Drew Bartlett, Rich Virgil, Justin Nolte and FWC South Region/ Regional Director Dr. Tom Reinert to look at the excessive wear and blocking/crowding happening to public boat launching facilities by tour boat operators. While we are all sportsman, there is no way agencies can keep up with the amount of repair it takes for commercial airboat tour operations utilizing public ramps. 1. These boat launch facilities were not constructed for this amount of use. 2. It is not fair to tax payers for commercial businesses to operate on tax payer funded facilities and increase the financial burden of their operation to the public. 3. They have fuel trailers and other equipment parked/taking up precious space that negates family recreation, let alone the environmental liability. 4. WORST, is most boats carry anywhere from 6-20 passengers. This particular ramp has 8 businesses operating from this little shell rock parking lot. Figure an hour tour, 15 minutes to load/unload, you get roughly 6-7 tours day x 8 boats x all those people means there are literally CAR/BUS LOADS of people coming to these ramps. Estimated at this one ramp was about 500 passengers on a busy day. Folks---tax paying, hard working families have to turn around and go somewhere else or go home as there is no parking and conditions are not safe for launch/retrieval/loading and unloading a family. So, we need attendance. Yes this is in south Florida right now. But, this is headed our way and in many cases taking place now. St Johns Water Management District adopted assigning one operator per ramp years ago due to this same situation. SFWMD has gone the extra mile to partner with The University of Florida and the data is back. If you can not make the meeting please consider writing an email to [email protected]. Brad has volunteered to get these concerns and support to stop this ridiculous violation to the proper staff members at SFWMD. We need attendance in the meetings July 29 or July 30. OR, we need your emails on this issue by July 28th. Please take a stand. These clubs and representatives traveled (Brad & Dana 7.5hr round trip) , discussed, advocated, and have worked for American Families to be able to utilize YOUR public facilities. This has taken 14 months to see to the finish line, let's get this done. Please help now in the same spirit as all these folks above came together to work for you.
