🐾 Everyone sees the cute puppies… but here’s what you DON’T see. ❤️

These babies are officially over a week old now, and we go sit with them multiple times every day to make sure everyone is nursing and getting a fair chance at eating. With a litter this size, we spend a lot of time watching, checking and making sure every puppy is getting what they need.

Raising puppies isn’t just puppy cuddles and cute pictures. There’s a LOT of work that goes into every single litter. 🐶❤️

Behind the scenes, we’re also:

🧹 Cleaning and keeping their space fresh
🐾 Exercising Mesa
🥩 Giving Mesa satin balls for extra nutrition
💧 Making sure she has plenty of fresh water
👀 Checking puppy weights
👃 Doing scent stimulation
🔸 Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)
💕 Trimming tiny puppy nails
🥰 And giving everyone LOTS of snuggles & love

❤️ There is so much that happens behind the scenes that you don't always see in the adorable puppy pictures and videos. It’s the fun stuff that makes a puppy great!

🐾 Tails & Dew Claws!

It’s one of those days that isn’t quite as cute and cuddly as puppy snuggles… but it’s an important part of our puppies’ early care! ❤️

Our puppies had their tails docked and dew claws removed by our veterinarian, and they are already doing great! 🥰

We know this can be a topic that brings up questions, so we always want to make sure it’s done properly, safely, and under veterinary care. Our puppies’ health and well-being are always our top priority from the moment they arrive. 🐶💕

Now it’s time for lots of extra cuddles, rest, and puppy piles! 🥹🐾

Nursing a litter takes SO much energy — that’s why we make homemade satin balls to keep her fueled, her coat shiny, and her strength up through every stage. 🍖✨ Healthy mama = healthy pups. 💕

Keeping Mama Healthy Through Pregnancy & Nursing with Satin Balls! 🐾

One question we get a lot: “How do you keep your mama dogs so healthy while they’re nursing a full litter?” One of our go-to tools is homemade “satin balls” — a calorie-dense, nutrient-packed treat made from ground meat, oats, wheat germ, gelatin, oil, and a vitamin supplement.

Nursing takes a huge toll on a mama dog’s body, and keeping her well-fed helps her maintain her weight, energy, and milk supply so her pups get everything they need too.

Behind every happy, healthy puppy is one VERY dedicated mama. 💕🐶

It’s true, Mesa produces amazing puppies because she is an amazing momma!

Mesa is a true rockstar! This is her 4th and final litter, and she has been a rockstar every time! She pours every ounce of herself into her puppies. She is most content in the whelping box, cuddling her pups. She is more than happy to keep them clean and lay (or sit 😂) still to let them nurse.

My children and I have been on a rotation every 3 hours to sit with her and the pups. We put the smallest ones on first, then rotate through the pack to be sure they all get a fair chance at getting full. (I’m thankful the whelping box is big enough for all of us!)

I know Mesa can’t talk, but I feel like she thanks us every time we sit with her. She stares into our eyes as we sit and help her. ❤️ She is so obedient to lay still while we work with each puppy.

Mesa truly is the best momma! She makes it look so easy. Good job Mesa! 👏🏻💕

Nothing better than a content mama and her brand-new crew. 🐾
